Yo, MADs! Ready for snow?

The snow here stopped three hours ago; roads are fine, 1" on the ground.

So far, this has been the most overhyped snowstorm in memory. On the radio this morning, someone joked that the forecasters have called 12 of our last 6 snowstorms.

OH dear God we’re snowed in!!! Astro runs screaming to the window and looks outside… oh.

We got about 3 inches here in suburban Baltimore, and it just started snowing again. Little light flakes. It’s very pretty. I love the snow.

Yeah, this one was waaaaaaay overhyped. The roads are fine. It seems mostly wet and slushy. Temps are just above freezing.

That moron Marty Bass (I can’t STAND him!) was all over the news this morning with his friggin’ Snow Show saying we should get another 12" between today and Monday.
I’ll believe it when I see it.

I watched Marty this morning, too - what an idiot.

It’s windy here in the Inner Harbor - I can feel the boat rocking and the dock lines creaking. But we shoveled the dock down to our slip, so I can walk to the parking lot without getting my sneakers soaked. Yay.

Next year, I buy boots.

We have gotten ZERO accumulation here. sigh

Poo…I’m sick of all this. I want real snow. I’m talkin’ 12-24 inches. We haven’t gotten more than 6 inches at a time…bah. Screw everyone in Buffalo!

I’ll see if we can bring you some.

Did it miss us to the north or south or what?

I know it didn’t miss me. I worked Fri night and had to drive home in that muck Sat morning. RT 9 to Charles Town was crappy as hell. The road on my mountian hadn’t been plowed. That was kinda scary. My nerves were shot by the time I got home. (two fingernails chewed to nubs)

I didn’t pull out the yard stick, but it looked like we had a solid 4 inches in the driveway at 9am Sat. And those are woman inches, not those exagerated guy inches.

Didn’t do much at all at my house all day. Maybe another half inch on the Jeep when I woke up at 4pm. They say were supposed to get some more tonight, but it doesn’t look that way to me.
Now I’m back at work tonight. Getting home should be a breeze. But, if we get even half as much as they say we’ll get for Sunday, I don’t think I’ll be able to get to work Sun night. They’re threatening to cram us in a hotel tomorrow to ensure they have enough folks. I hope not.

Just drove all the way from Tyson’s Corner to Hillsboro and it wasn’t snowing at any point.

Same here, but we sure got a lot of that salt crap on our windshield :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, we’ve got snow now - about 5 inches so far, from the looks of it. Now that’s more like it!

Yay! I just stuck my hand down into the snow on my top step and it want in about 5". Woohoo!!!

Come on 24"!!

This is going to be bigger than the Presidents’ Day storm of 1979!

The snow is covering the bottom half of our cabin portholes. It’s come in thru the side of the pilothouse door. There’s some question as to whether we can even open the door. And I somehow suspect that my 9:10 flight tomorrow won’t be going…

On the positive side, the cable is still working, as is electricity, so we’re just gonna be snowbound.

Here in Central PA, the snow is really coming down. And we don’t have cable and football season is over, so we’re going to have to find something to do.

It’s gonna suck, because Aaron needs formula, baby food and diapers, so I’m gonna have to go out in this mess in a bit.

Robin

We’ve got a good 8 inches or so and they’ve calling for 24 inches by tomorrow morning!

But it’s gonna be 50° on Friday. :frowning:

Robyn, that really is gonna suck, if you guys are getting what we’re getting. You have my sympathy.

We don’t have cable, but I’d already had plans to do a couple of indoor projects this weekend, even before there were rumors of blizzards. That plus a couple videos and an Internet connection, and we should be fine here at the Firefly manse.

Neidhart, that’ll be tough to beat. I’ve got pix from the Washington’s Birthday blizzard of 1979, when I was living just south of Alexandria. We still had about 6 inches on the ground from a previous storm, and that blizzard dumped another foot and a half.

The snow in that storm fell in a much shorter period of time, and took everybody by surprise, as the primitive forecast models in use then failed to pick up on it.

But a storm of this magnitude, coming only a few days after a Code Orange alert - obviously Uncle Saddam has learned to control the weather! What better way to immobilize the nation’s capital?

Did anyone else hear thunder this morning?? We couldn’t figure out what the weird noises were (translation - is the boat going to sink??) then the weather guys said there was thunder in Baltimore!

As of right now, 4 of the 5 ports in the main cabin are completely covered and the 5th, the one nearest the stove (which is no longer there), is 2/3 covered. I just looked in the head (that’s the bathroom for you landlubbers) and saw that the frame around the portlight is iced over - INSIDE! Steve went back to sleep, and I’m watching HGTV and surfing. The cat is sleeping. I’m pretty sure I won’t be getting back to Jax tomorrow.

And we’re guessing the pizza delivery guys can’t make it here. Not that it matters - we used all our cash at the Birthday Dope last night… So it’ll be canned fruit and graham crackers for us. And maybe spaghetti later.

Incidentally, the pics that I linked to aren’t the latest and greatest - they were taken before and during rework. One of these days, I’ll add the completed photos.

Yes, FairyChatMom, I heard thunder, too. It was really weird to hear thunder in a snowstorm.
What does that mean? Is it a more severe storm?

And where are you? On a boat docked at the harbor? Did you sail up from Florida? How cool!
