Considering the fact that BossK is my current LFP (least favorite poster), a spot formerly held by Autumn Wind Chick, I’d hate to be confused with someone who actually defends him.

I wasn’t picking a fight or saying it was ok, I was asking for the cite where you picked this quote up. My point was, since it’s so common, why don’t the mods simply close the threads about other posters and berate the posters who start them? You posted a quote which I have not seen and was simply asking for context, which you didn’t give.

Ginger was helpful though. And in the context of that quote, it looks as if Tuba is referring to personal problems with other Dopers, not because of board behavior. Of course, only Tuba can clarify this for us.

Okay, I guess some people still don’t understand why Bossk is considered by some to be behaving badly. Well, let’s see some recent examples:

Please, howgoesit and Devil May Care, explain why this type of action should be encouraged or even permitted.

What was his reaction? He began turning that reference into another attack. What a surprise? In fact, for the rest of the thread, he began insulting people based solely on their appearance, making assumptions out the yin-yang about how people look (nevermind that he never worked up the gumption to show the world how he looked).

The bottom line? He wants to act like an ass. Apparently, he thinks he has free reign in the Pit. A foolish notion if there ever was one, but there you go.

What really bugs me about this particular ass, is he’ll take pot-shots at other posters but when you shoot back, he just leaves the thread. Take this thread for example. He made one completely non-sequitor post and hasn’t returned. I don’t think he will either. Classic case of dishing it out but not taking it.

I should apologise for being overly harsh in my post towards howgoesit. My attacking him obviously caused him to miss the spirit of what I was trying to say. Smeghead put it much better, since he did it with sarcasm rather than vitriol.

So try this instead:

We get a lot of Trolls Or Idiots (henceforth referred to as TOIs) on this board.

2/3 of people never make more than 10 posts. 50% never even make more than 1 or 2 posts. And yet a staggeringly high proportion of these microposters feel able to pass judgement on the relationships and dynamics that have existed for years on this board. Those who do this are given short shrift simply because we see it so often and - well - because it is rather offensive. Would you barge into a party of people who know eachother well and immediately start criticising them and their relationships to eachother? Would you put up with it if it happened to you? Or would you think “who the hell is this person and how are they qualified to pass judgement on me and my friends?”

Now, because such a high proportion of brand new posters are TOIs, there tends to be a natural suspicion. We do generally give the benefit of the doubt - and there are many many examples of warm welcomes to newbies - but when in the first ten posts they make somebody having a go at us then that benefit of the doubt evaporates pretty damn quick. We’ve simply seen it all before. And it’s tedious.
