I have noticed over the years that people aren’t really all that enthused about getting advice from me, so I try to limit myself to “Yays, boos, hugs, etc” as much as possible.
So Yays, boos, hugs, etc. I have read, and I do care.
I has a conundrum, I didn’t think we (Wifey and I), were doing Hexmas presents this year.
I should have known better. My problem is, I haven’t gotten her anything. This is furthur complicated by the fact that:
a) Anything she wants, she just gets herself.
b) we live 40 miles from the nearest actual shopping place where I might realistically be presented with some actual choices to ponder.
c) I don’t have any ideas anyway.
d) when i do buy her something, I get a distinct “well, it’s the thought that counts” vibe.
The onlyest thing I know she needs is a new recliner, which is something we need to shop for together.
In the mean time she has my recliner, which she has taken over. I don’t like hers either.
When we got back from vacation, the short end (about three feet) of the back gutter had fallen down. I couldn’t see how it was attached, but there was a nail up there and I set it up. When I got home last night, Wifey was up on a ladder because the other end had fallen and water was pouring out. It was difficult to lift, for some reason. I got a piece of 2x4 and got it back into position. It’s dripping, but not pouring.
My plan was to get some of that weather seal tape and tape up the joint. SWMBO has other plans. She wants me to get new brackets and make a permanent fix. I know nothing about putting up gutters. I’ll have to take off the short section, see how it was attached, go to the hardware store for parts, and then figure out how to put it back up. In the rain. My fear is that I won’t be able to do it, and we’ll just have no gutter.
So sorry for the Chat family. And sorry you’re get away is messed up.
Another slothful day here. I did go water some plants and have to finish. We need rain. It is 85F with high humidity. It’s almost the middle of Dec for crying out loud.
Yes, the whole thing should be replaced. But SWMBO wanted me to fix it now and then have it replaced in Spring.
I did go out on my ‘lunch break’. The brackets are not broken. It looks like the end of the short section came uncoupled. I attempted to recouple it. The bracket had slipped down. I put a nail into it. I put another (big) nail to hold up the far end, and I put some Gorilla tape over as much of the joint as I could get to. I also cleaned as much debris out of the gutter as I could. But since it wasn’t installed right (not by me), it’s not draining like it should. Anyway, it is what it is. I’ll ask around for a gutter person.
Aw, Fecal Droppings, FCM/FCD. That report doesn’t sound good at all. Sorry your getaway may be postponed, but this takes precedent. Hope BIL comes through, I expect his passing (if it comes to that) will have a negative effect on his parents, which at thier age ain’t good either. Hang in there and do the British thing (Keep Calm and Carry On). Thinking of you and the rest.
Flyboy, hope you can get somebody out there to do a temporary fix on it that will get you to the spring.
Dicey, I think you are wise, but we’ll remember that you owe us stories on Swiss traditions someday…
Bumba, maybe a fancy (engraved?) note promising a new recliner upon first available shopping day? Other than that, I got nuthin’.
Haven’t had a good giggle-snort in quite a while. Glad we could entertain.
Have swum and sauna’ed, also began the march to the 21st century by moving my water bill to direct payment instead of by check, electric bill is next once I confirm that December’s is all paid. Hopefully 2023 will mean writing checks will, if not a thing of the past, will be an infrequent occurrence.
OK, Pardon the Interruption will be on in a few minutes, need to finish up here and assume the position on the couch.
Don’t let me bring the party down - really. I’m just venting since this is a safe space. I have no problems with happier, sillier, inaner, whatever posts. Please do share!!
Honestly, I’ll be amazed if BIL comes thru this at all. They’re still trying to stabilize him for transport - apparently he’s got heart issues on top of the kidneys, the gut, last year’s concussion and seizures, and who knows what all. I don’t think anyone knows if he stays up to date on his meds. Frankly, I’m surprised he’s sill alive. No clue when FCD will get home either.
I’m steaming a big batch of rice for SIL and cooking up some chickie tit nuggets. He needs something bland and filling. Got the laundry sorted and the first load is washing. Higgs has been fed. I’m having a nuked lo mein thing - meh. I just want to collapse, but I’ve got at least 3 loads to wash. On the plus side, no kidlets. The quiet is wonderful!!!
Carry on - reallly, don’t try to stay at my level!! Be happy!!
Glad that you’re getting the truck issues straightened out yank.
{{{Moooom}}} May life get considerably less sucky soon.
Drove to irk in the rain, came home in a sprinkle, walked Nelson and et. I flashed most of the day today and got sent to a committee meeting for bottom up advisory on some changes at the plant. We’ll see how long the enthusiamf lasts.
Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions and swiped the General’s sup. Aside from the usual sloth and general overall uselessness, thus it was today in swampland.
Bumba we don’t buy each other any kind of gifts. If we want sump’n we get it then. So no real advice. However, if a cleanin’ service would be a thing both of you would like, I recommend that. I am ever so happy we did that.
{{{MOOOOOOM}}} first sorry you trip looks like it may be cancelled. That sucks. Second, here’s hopin’ for the best possible outcome for BIL. When it’s all resolved, I recommend a nice loooooon get away for FCD and you.
