My point is that I don’t think that America has the capacity to have develop a path and of the remaining options, collapse is the best. I’m also not suggesting that we do anything to bring it about, only that it is highly likely. In a way, Trump is the best case scenario for a fascist America, it would be much worse for the world if he was competent.

Classic false dichotomy. There can be more than one “real geopolitical danger” in existence at the same time, and Trump’s antidemocracy authoritarian maladministration is absolutely one of them. (It’s also the one that Americans have the best chance of directly doing something about.)

We have a relatively short time between elections and our politicians have to pander to dumb ass voters every 2-6 years depending on the office. Plus, if you think immigration is an issue today wait til the oceans rise.

Ironically, China is at least treating the problems of climate change and the corresponding need to control emissions with way more seriousness and practical resolve than the US under Donald Trump, although its goals still fall far short of what is needed.
