The first one maybe but not the second one. I’d just know not to doze off.
I don’t mind people who don’t care for tattoos; tastes differ. I mind someone judging my morality by my skin art.
What do mullets have to do with unions? The mullet is a hick thing. And, yes, if you overreact to people having one to the point of judging them as inferior and treating them poorly (let alone equating it with a mental disorder like our Pittee here), I do assume you have a problem with hicks. Mere aesthetic preferences don’t result in treating people poorly unless you are just a horrible asshole anyways. And then chances are you hate everyone who is different from you, so I’m still right to say you hate hicks.
And there’s nothing hypocritical about any of this. The person with a tattoo or mullet is not doing anything to you. They have not done anything wrong–just something that you think looks bad. Judging people by their actions is not the same thing as judging them by their appearance. We’re judging by the content of their character, not the color of their skin.
And, yes, I just went there.
Although it could have been a Chinese girl who got “I have herpes” tattooed on herself even though she had no idea what it meant because she thought the characters looked cool.
I really think it’s more of a generational thing than a class thing. When I was growing up, I knew no one who had a tattoo (at least not a visible one that I knew about). The whole idea that someone would permanently mark their body like that was very non-mainstream.
While you’re there, maybe you can look up the term “rhetorical question.”
And “sanctimonious bore.”
And “tl;dr.”
I agree with you. Unless…
Does your tattoo say “I am morally delinquent.” Cause than, you know, I might judge.
I am.
I’ll have to think of a response to this one (not that I spend a lot of time in meatspace criticizing tattoos) - maybe something like, “Well, YOU’RE obviously the exception,” with a big grin on my face.
You don’t like people not liking your tats? Eat my fucking shorts. News! Breaking news! You’ll be FUCKING DEAD SHORTLY !!! And who exactly will give a flying fuck?
Judgemental fucking dork fuck. Piss up a rope.
Heh - that was fun. I should go off on idiotic, frothing rants more often.
Yeah! When you dump a half a gram of crystal in it!
I don’t dig people who judge others. Pet peeve I guess. Beyond that IT’S A MESSAGE BOARD!!!
I can be a dick here without thinking about whether I’m going to be sucking fist soon. Well, not really. If you’re going to be a smart ass, helps if if you a: have one and b: are one. Got that shit covered.
So says the internet tough guy.
Nailed it in one shot. Judgemental shits. Only ever had ONE person say it to my face. And I let him walk. At least he was honest. Skinny little shit to boot.
Tried to edit — that’s why I dig you. Don’t know how old you are, but hell, takes many miles to get it. Hard ones. Pretty sure you know what I mean. You’re heart is a wonderfull thing. Don’t care if you’re a man or a woman, but burn my ass to the ground, you are a damn near* purrfect human being.
Asterick because I know for a fact those words would never leave your lips.
Tats CAN be sexy if they’re good, and they are well thought out. There are also places on the body that I think tats to be partularly unattractive, with a few exceptions…
I’m with Scylla here–I think that while judging your morality for the fact or location of a tattoo is silly and wrong, judging you based on the CONTENT of your tattoo is certainly something that can be done.
It’s the difference between, pardon my Godwin, “I’m holding a pair of books, don’t judge me for that” and “I’m holding Mein Kampf and The Satanic Bible, don’t judge me on that”.
Sadly, the whole idea of judging someone’s class of character based on them making a non-mainstream decision is still pretty mainstream.
I wanted to know what all the fuss was about, don’t be hatin’ !
I think tattoos are ugly (especially on women), but I totally support people’s right to get one if they so choose.
I disagree with Clothahump’s sentiments, but don’t think this offense is really pitable. The OP over-reacts.
But since we’re here…
Clothahump Roast, such as it is
Clothahump has expressed pitable sentiments several times, generally when he opines on whether certain hypothetical miscreants deserve to live. This thread isn’t in the same county as that. (Not that the latter represent especially unusual commentary, at least IRL.) Clothahump also on occasion submits interesting, useful and reasonably informed posts. I don’t really have a problem with the guy.
It’s not the sentiment that earned the Pitting. It’s the threadshitting. When you click on a thread that clearly mentions body art or tattoos for the sole purpose of saying how much you hate tattoos, that is hateful and totally unnecessary. There are lots of threads on the Dope that interest me not at all, or that I totally disagree with. I simply stay out of them.
Completely agree.
Tattoos are so ubiquitous now that daring to not have any tattoos could be considered rebellious.
I remember being in Lowe’s over the summer on a particularly hot day, and I swear I was the only person in the store without a tattoo…
Ok, I accept that: part of the issue is that I don’t frequent IMHO or MPSIMS. In GD and the pit disagreeing with the premise is de rigour of course.
But jeez, the OP mentioned I think 5 examples over 6 years, and the posts were a couple of sentences. And 2 of them were clearly topical as the threads were entitled “I dislike tatoos” and “Non-inked Dopers: Why not?” Two were borderline, "PICTURE GALLERY: Girls With Tattoos, " and "Tattoos you can’t see (Why would someone get a tattoo you can’t look at? IMO, it defeats the purpose/isn’t as much fun.) " That leaves, “Design my Mid-life Crisis Tattoo” as a clear example of untopical commentary. Ho hum: this doesn’t even warrant a vulgar epithet.
Very kind words. Thank you.
