Hey, I was holding out hope for growth.
You know, one good thing that’s come of this thread (since I’m not convinced Maven’s going to learn beans from it, sad to say) is I’m delighted to find out what thrifty cheapskates many Dopers are! Sometimes I’ve felt like a freak for owning so many hand-me-downs, thrift store, scratch-n-dent, and trash picked items (people just discard the nicest outdoor furniture!). Other than our computer, I don’t think we own anything that cost us more than $150, and the vast majority of our stuff was more like $20 (or free). And we repaint & “re-purpose” things all the time. I really like the values that those choices express, and I’m glad to see that I’m not alone.

My first three couches were from the lobby of our apartment building with signs on them labelled “free.”
My couch now is a REALLY nice leather one that someone was giving away. It was like I won the freakin’ lottery!
Anyhoo: I’ve been reading Maven’s LJ and it looks like she’s up to her old tricks, responding only to those comments that she can refute and completely ignoring everything else. Still insisting they won’t make enough money if she doesn’t go back to work after the baby’s born, but refusing to acknowledge the umpteen comments about how she’ll be losing money. Also won’t acknowledge the $500 furniture thing.
Poor Iampuna has given a lot of thoughtful, insightful posts, all of which have been ignored.

I fail to understand why she is claiming people “jump all over her” for wearing black clothes and listening to hair metal when NOT ONE PERSON has said any such thing. She is completely ignoring the very valid concerns that people have raised about daycare costs and the expenses involved.
And I suspect that she is not commenting on the going back to work because it seems to me that she doesn’t understand how she can be losing money if she is working.
I followed this thread. I should have known better. 
I should probably keep my mouth shut. I don’t have kids, and it’s certainly not my place to tell anybody else how to raise theirs. But what I’m reading from Hair Maven, or whatever the fuck she’s calling herself this week, has absolutely disgusted me.
I want to say thanks to all the Dopers who’ve offered invaluable advice here; though it won’t be taken by its intended recipient, I certainly learned a lot from it.
On to the OP: I am shocked, saddened, and made completely sick by your comments and your attitude. You care about nothing and no one but yourself. You want to be a victim in life, and you will fight tooth and claw anyone who wants to help you out of a situation. You ignore people who are trying to help you; people with the generosity and kindness to look past your fucked-up, disgusting attitude and want only the best for your unborn child.
But no. You want to be the martyr. You’re all freaked out on this vision of yourself as some angst-ridden self-sacrificing working class hero. Well fuck you. Fuck you sideways with a brick. You want to jump off a cliff, be my guest, but pass your baby to someone else before you go over, because you don’t deserve a child. You don’t deserve to know the joy of bringing a life into this world. There are people here on this very board who would cut off their right arm for that chance and say the price came cheap.
And you won’t give your baby a chance to get away from the vicious cycle of your own mental problems. You are infectious human waste, and no child should be subjected to you.

If she’s just working to make enough to pay child care, but just wants to work to be a martyr, why not stay home and, you know, nurture her baby?? Oh, sorry, this one has been answered.
Nothing against child care, but it seems like the mother child bond would be crucial for her child to “have better parents than I had” or whatever that little quip was from the OP, hamsters won’t allow a quick look.
As for 2 cars, $500/mo furniture, can’t stay home, make too much for assistance, can’t get assistance over the phone 'cause they hung up on me, lose my cable/DSL,…all I can say is damn.
I see every excuse under the fucking sun to avoid staying home to be with her baby.
CLUE ALERT! Raising the “damn kid” is prioity # Fucking 1! Lots have people have raised perfectly fine children without any of the things you don’t want to live without.

Seeing as how she is copying posts from this thread and replying to them in her journal, I don’t see why we can’t put a link to it here, but I won’t do it without an official ok. (Specifically evilbeth’s post on pg. 4.) I know she has posted a link to it in the past (it’s how I found it) so I wonder if we could find the thread where she linked to it herself.

Bad News Baboon, I wondered about that as well, especially since she did not link to this thread or even say where the post came from when she responds to it in her journal. I recognized it and checked to see if evilbeth maybe posted it in her comments as well as here, but she didn’t.
