The Dossier: I’m tempted, as a player, to immediately reveal my Dossier. Of course, if I’m scum, I’ll probably lie some. Is there any reason for a Townie not to truthfully reveal all their Dossier at the beginning?
The Dossier game mechanic as explained so far doesn’t quite make sense to me. Since we haven’t even seen our own Dossier yet, and the game begins with a Night Start (and presumably a Dawn death scene) we will be in a much better position to evaluate the benefit of Dossier claims on Day One.
Well…I haven’t followed these for a while, and unfortunately will not be able to make the time commitment to join this one either. But I’ll be following along and cheering you on.
Just wanted to say “go scum!” to former compatriots. You know who you are.

It should make perfect sense after the Night 1 color post is put up. Don’t worry about it too much for now. (anyone really)

Well, my hope is that players have learned something from Firefly and Bladerunner and won’t lynch people for stupid reasons anymore.

The first death scene won’t happen until two days into Day One.
I’m not certain how the Dossier will work either. But three points: 1) all the Town truthfully revealing their Dossier won’t break the game, 2) no Townie is more valuable than any other, so no one to protect by hiding among the vanillas, and 3) more information will make any Dossier analysis easier. Thus, I’m thinking Townies should quickly and truthfully reveal their Dossiers.
The scum may decide to lie to some degree, or may not. They’ll have the first Night to decide their best strategy. The Town will eventually be able to sort it all out no matter what the scum say, since the Dossier information is not required for the Town to win. So, nothing to lose, and a possible gain.
The Secret may change the calculus, if it’s revealed at the beginning of the game.

I’m not saying this assertion isn’t the case. But I do think that we should revisit once we’ve actually seen our own Dossier and see whatever additional information we get before making a decision.
Pleonast is taking the point of view that unless someone can show a detriment to revealing Dossiers we should reveal them. This is fine, and the fact that Dossiers won’t make or break the game supports this supposition.
However:
I am taking the point of view that we need to identify a benefit of revealing Dossiers before we reveal them. Basically, I don’t see a game mechanic where Town revealing Dossiers is helpful. Right now I don’t see the point of the Dossiers at all. Once we get a better indication, then we can make an informed decision.
A reminder to anyone who is going to “just watch”; we are hosting a perfect information board off site (shout out to Idle Thoughts for the board). If you are not going to play and would like the URL PM either MtgMan or myself. We will be running contests and things of that nature on the boards so it will be a big ol’ party.
NAF and Mtgman, can you give me a ballpark figure for a range of how long you anticipate this game lasting? I’m thinking through most of January at least and possibly into March/April if it comes down to 3 players like Mafia V. Sound right to you guys?
I’m thinking worst case it will go ten day/night cycles, that’s enough deaths to kill twenty players, so that’s pretty safe as a max. At nine real life days per Day/Night cycle we’re looking at 90 days tops. I’m thinking we may be playing in March, but I’d bet we’ll be done by April.

Also, I doubt that each Day/Night cycle will last the full 9 Days.
If subs aren’t going to be used, I think I will wait for the next game to make my SDMB Mafia debut :). Two games at once would too much for my brain right now.
So… uh… if you get four more today, any chance of starting early? Watching my game has me pretty much going insane to play again.
At this point, that is a rather large if.
Remember when these games were popular? I filled a 30+ person game in a matter of hours when I ran M2.
I can’t resist the pull of the game. I wish to sign up. However if there is new blood that wants to join in, I’ll give up my seat. This one looks like a lot of fun, and since I got offed so quickly in **story’s ** game I’ve been antsy.

The max is 8 cycles. After 8 lynches, someone has to have met their win condition.
Once a majority is reached there will be a 12 hour cooling off period. We are not going to go insta-lynch in this game; you can change your minds. If at any point in the 12 hours the majority is lost the clock will revert to the normal game clock. Otherwise at the end of 12 hours the player with majority will be lynched.
So how does this work if there is a majority vote within the last 12 hours of a day? Is there a cooling off period until the end of the day?

I missed noticing my 3000th post.

This kind of feels like when my office celebrated the 25th anniversary of a woman at the company, and I told her that she has been working there for longer then I’d been alive.
