You took a violent killer to the fair? Are you insane?

Update: He’s been caught.

Why are you quoting Count Blucher but attributing it to yourself? And why would you be responding to yourself in the first place?

Well because I fucked up the quote tag… as you can see the quote I quoted wasn’t actually me… it was Count Blucher with the wrong attribution… I fucked up the quote and fucked up again when I tried to fix it… shit happens…Screws fall out all the time, the world is an imperfect place…

Given that the topic is “insane” people, there is just too much irony here.

Perhaps you and threemae could reread the thread, this time rather than assuming that the “recreational outrage” derives from an insufficient severity of punishment, instead imagine that the poster’s concern is the lack of proper care ensuring that that Mr. poor, put-upon killer—who’s not responsible for his violent actions— won’t you know, be violent toward someone else. It may give you a different perspective, albeit less opportunity for sanctimony.

This is half my concern. I’ve no major issue with the mentally ill, even the previously violent mentally ill, being given the opportunity to be exposed to society. After all, if cured, they will be right back in society, and it’s certainly wise to work them back into it in small doses.

But the other half of my concern is that the public outrage seems to be targeted at the fact that he was out at all, not that he was out with damn near criminally lax supervision. The latter is where my outrage resides.

If he’s not responsible for his own actions, then the people who took him to the fair are the ones who are responsible. Did you read the update where he was caught? As it was stated in this article, this has happened before:

Also, above that:

He’s not being punished, people – he’s simply being kept from harming others. There are ways to obtain recreation without putting other people in danger. No, he’s not guilty by reason of mental defect – but he’s STILL A DANGER TO OTHERS. Such a verdict does not mean a person is simply released back into society.

He doesn’t seem like the type who CAN be trusted to be out, sadly. What do you do – take him out in shackles for the world to see?

The deputy that had being injured during his previous escape was the official who caught him this time. Whatdayaknow?

What a mess, and good that the fellow has been caught now, but, 5-4, this was masterful.

This is so easily explained. Wednesday night at the fair was Ladies Night. Thursday night was Family Night. Friday night was Criminally Insane Night. The discounts alone were INSANE! The state couldn’t afford not to send all the inmates.

When insanity is outlawed, only criminals will be insane.

Thanks, elelle.

Makes those creepy horror movies about killers in the fun house just a bit more realistic. I’ll stick to the Tilt-o-Whirl thankyouverymuch.

Did they check the funhouse yet? This happens all the time…some drunk, horny teenagers will sneak into the fair and try to spend the night. Most of them will be killed but there’s a good chance the mousyand shy girl will sprain her ankle and eventually incapacitate him to escape…at least until he escapes again or his sister plots her revenge, etc…

Sure most people are outraged by this incident. But the writing staff at CSI and Law & Order are thinking “sweeps week episode.”

Maybe they were just standing outside the wrong port-a-potty before they realized their mistake…

A good chance to use my all-time favorite advertising blurb ever that I genuinely once saw in an ad for one of those procedural shows:

“IT DOESN’T GET ANY MORE RIPPED FROM THE HEADLINES THAN THIS!!!”

Eastern State Hospital has acknowledged that, in retrospect, the fiasco of September’s “Take an Insane Criminal to the County Fair Day” was a foreseeable downside to August’s “Let an Insane Criminal Plan Next Month’s Activities Day”.

“Mmmmm. Kettle Corn. D’oh…!

September is "Back to School" with a trip to a local school for som storytelling and Murder...I mean, Dodge Ball!
Exactly...my money is on Horatio shooting somebody between the eyes....again!
