Your favorite Youtube video (new thread)

I am not positive, but I *think *it is Snooker. I watched it for a while when I was in France. I resolved to read up on the rules over the internet, but have been too lazy to do so.

The game in question is called 3-cushion billiards. It’s played on a table with no pockets, and it’s actually a very old and well respected form of billiards. Early in the last century there were major tournaments, and many billiard halls had 3-cushion tables. It’s also why pool started out being called “pocket billiards” - billiards with pockets on the table, as opposed to traditional, no-pocket billiards.

The rule of the game is that a player has to shoot the cueball into the red, carom off it, then hit the object ball. Along the way, the cueball must have to touch a rail at least three times. So you can go off the red, around three rails, and onto the object ball as in the shot in the video. Or the cueball could be shot three rails then hit the red and glance off it into the object ball. So long as the conditions are met that the cueball hits the red first, hits the object ball, and touches a rail at least three times before touching the object ball, a score is made.

Players who play the game are expert at judging the path the cueball will take around the table. Essentially, every shot is a multiple-cushion bank shot.

If you want to see what the game looks like in action, try this link: Blomdahl vs. Reyes. It’s a fascinating game.

"Why sure I’m a billiard player, certainly mighty proud to say, I’m always mighty proud to say it.

I consider that the hours I spend with a cue in my hand are golden: Help you cultivate horse sense, and a cool head, and a keen eye.

Did 'ja ever try and give an iron-clad leave to yourself from a three-rail billiard shot?

But just as I say it takes judgment, brains and maturity to score in a balk-line game I say that any boob can take and shove a ball in a pocket."

Interest is great enough here at least. Please post away!

Though Blomdahl plays good pool, I’d have to say that Efren plays such good straight rail, balkline, pool, and three cushion that he is the undisputed master of anything involving cues, except perhaps acting. Thanks for the great explanation of carom games - I didn’t get there in time to do it myself.

Speaking of animals, I’m hooked on clips of people’s crazy dogs. This one kills me everytime, as does this one.

Your first link there led me to this one. There are few things so real, cool, and frickin’ creepy all at once.

Bjork and PJ Harvey cover “Satisfaction.”

Gives me the ol’ antsy in the pantsy every time.

I’ve always liked this one. A song about games and their effect on relationships.

In case you haven’t tried the word search on the site I suggested, here is the satirical video I ref’d in the post immediately following yours.

That *was *funny.

Pinky, are you pondering what I’m pondering?
