Your first celebrity crush . . . then and now

Genie Francis of General Hospital’s “Luke & Laura”.

In 2007 still looks good for a grown up, maybe a little plush by Hollywood standards.

Beautiful Marilyn Hassett in 1976.

Marilyn recently.

My first celebrity crush was a cartoon.

My longest celebrity crush is this guy. 22 years strong. It all began when I was 12 years old and he was the host of Short Attention Span Theater on the Comedy Channel. He’s done pretty well for himself, no?

Not my first–but still a pretty early one: Danica McKellar as Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years definitely ranks among my biggest TV crushes growing up.

Then

Now

She went on to study mathematics in college and now–in addition to the occasional acting job–she promotes math education and writes books to encourage young kids (especially girls) to get interested in math.

Sigh. I *still *have a crush on her.

Jane Seymour

I first remember her as Solitairein Live and Let Die (she’s the one with the pale skin  ).

39 years later, at age 61, I think she’s doing pretty well.

Martin Shaw, thenand now.

From what I’ve read over the years, I doubt we’d be remotely compatible but gosh, he’s still real pretty.

My wife crushes on him, too, though he was by no means her first crush – I’m not sure that “The Professionals” was aired here in the US when it was first running in England in the 1970s, but she discovered it on videotape 10 or 15 years ago, and fell in love with the guy.

You’re lightweights, all of you.

I was thirteen and I would have … done it, if he’d insisted.

Better than “pretty good”.

The earliest I can remember is Annette Funicello when she was on the Mickey Mouse Club. I watched her on TV in the 1970s, not really understanding the concept of “reruns” and not realizing she was older than my mom.

Amen and pass the coconut cream pie.

Oy, vey, my crush growing up was Val Kilmer (omg, The Saint) and no, he isn’t doing all that great these days, looks-wise.

I almost fell out of the movie seat when I first saw Brad Pitt in A River Runs Through It, and I’d say he’s weathered the years quite well.

Funny, 'cause I was just coming in to say Lee Majors! (I am stunned to discover he will be 73 next month!!)

Then

Now

I won’t call him the first one but he was a very early one and one of the first I enjoyed myself too and I mention him for a reason:

Harry Hamlin. I was about 13/14 when Clash of the Titans came out and his shirtless/loin cloth pics from that gave me some great upper arm workouts and fantasies. He was about 28/29 when he filmed that movie and simply beautiful.

The reason I choose him is that he appeared in an episode of Shameless on Showtime this week. He is now 60, and he was naked on the episode. And the amazing thing is— he is still damned doable, way more than some guys half his age.

There are already pics online. I won’t link directly, but if you’re interested go to these google search results and click the first one (wintertype something or other).

Peter O’Toole as Lawrence of Arabia was my first celebrity crush.

But then came Tom Selleck

Tim Considine in Spin and Marty and more recently.

Billy Gray on Father Knows Best (oh those t-shirts and jeans!) and more recently.

Johnny Crawford from The Rifleman, and more recently.

They were all a few years older than I was at the time, and I would have been happy to grow old with any of those guys.
Roddy

I was hopelessly in love with Jonathan Brandis and seeing that he killed himself in 2003, I don’t imagine he is looking so good today.

Around 1980 there was a Toronto TV program which had a presenter named Sharon Seto. Japanese, long black hair… Major early crush for me in high school. I haven’t been able to find a picture of her, either then or now.

Don’t know for sure she was my first, but it’s the earliest crush I can remember: Ms. Amy Jo Johnson

Then
Now

Not only hotter, but she’s gotten a bit less blurry over the years, too.
