LF myth most people seem to think is true
Some idjit did that about ten years ago, and decided to shoot into the ground. Hit a water pipe. Didn’t make a hole, but cracked a seal, so didn’t know there was damage until the next morning. Karma is usually not so on-the-ball.
That sugar makes kids hyper. I have less favorite myths, but this one is believed so widely, and by many usually reasonable people-- people who are by no means conspiracy nuts, that I keep bumping my head against it. I can’t put a single cookie in my kid’s lunch*, or some other parent accuses me of setting him up to be an attention drain on the teacher for the whole afternoon, adversely affecting her little snowflake’s education.
LF myth or UL, not necessarily widely believed, but believed by enough people to make it a problem.
*Which BTW, I do only on Fridays, as a Shabbes thing, and on minor holidays he spends in school. He got one on the first and last day of Hanukkah.

You mean, I don’t like the fact, or I don’t like that people disregard it?
If you mean the latter, then it would probably be that tossing cigarettes on the ground violates littering laws. It even says so on a bunch of signs posted around the city here. I have only heard once of someone ticketed for this offense, ever, though. And that was a “it happened to my BIL,” so it is sort of a FOAF story (the teller was pretty reliable, though, and I know the BIL; he’s kind of an asshole; I hope it’s true).
