Your Literary Crushes

No one else fell in love with Caddy Compson from Sound and the Fury? (No one other than Faulkner at least?)

Lieutenant Abigail Hearns, Miss Owens, the first Grayson-born woman to be commisioned as an officer in the Grayson Space Navy in the Honor Harrington series of books. What can I say? I love a woman in uniform. Although her personal armsman, Lieutenant Mateo Gutierrez, would probably be intimidating enough to be around.

Also from the same series of books, Admiral Shannon “Oops” Foraker, the Havenite tech-witch who is always finding new ways to apply the Republic of Haven’s relatively limited technology in it’s ongoing war against the smaller but more technologically advanced Manticoran Alliance. What can I say? I also like the smart girls (who on occasion destroy entire enemy fleets with computer viruses).

Captain Kylara Vatta, from Elizabeth Moon’s “Vatta’s War” series, also scores highly on my list, although guys who develop crushes on her in the books tend to meet unfortunate ends, much to her continued dismay and annoyance.

Lady Barbara Wellesy Harrington, from C.S. Forester’s Horatio Hornblower series. The sister of the Duke of Wellington, she is smart, capable, and unconventionally beautiful. I really do wish they would make some more Hornblower movies so they can put her into a movie already.

Woohoo! Saint Germain (from the Chelsea Quinn Yarbro books) is mine! All mine!

And Loren Silvercloak from the Fionavar Tapestry series (Guy Gavriel Kay).

And Elric (Michael Moorcock).

And [sub]ahem[/sub] Tristan and the Prince from Ann Rice’s Beauty series.

bobkitty - Excuse me, but I have a long existing claim to Saint Germain. Hence my username. See my membership date? I’ll also add Jamie Fraser and Roger Mac and Constantine. My own little man-harem.

StG

You can have Roger, but I already claimed Jamie. See above. Find another third man for your man-harem.

Ooh, I had a thought, StGermain. Since I already have Jamie, would Roland Deschain of The Dark Tower Series be a suitable replacement?

Damnit! I always forget to mention her in these threads! And for those who might get the wrong impression, although “oops” is her greatest line, it does not indicate clumsiness.

Bah, this should say Lady Barbara Wellesy Hornblower, as she married Horatio, not Honor. :smack:

It’s so true (in re: Littlefinger)…and I certainly won’t begrudge you The Hound either.

(The real question, not appropriate for this thread, becomes “Who should Sansa be with?” )

Bah. Tyrion, of course!

:smack:

I promise to start previewing my posts tomorrow. darts eyes

Angua, from the Discworld series. I see I’m not the first to pick her, however.

Meg, from A Wrinkle in Time. I suspect that my lifelong fascination with girls who wear glasses can be traced directly back to her.

Millie, from Jumper and Reflex. Smart and sarcastic, a dangerous combination for me.

Can I be the only one smitten with Franny Glass from J.D. Salinger’s Franny and Zooey? I’ve always been drawn to girls like that. And I’ve always preferred the dark hair, too.

I’ve also got a thing for Nately’s Whore from Joseph Heller’s Catch-22.

Would it be so wrong to say Mary Magdalene from the Gospels? I mean, I know she wasn’t that easy, which is a plus, and I have a hunch she’d be a tiger. I dunno why. Queen Sheba, too.

Back on the dark hair thing: Six from Maxx Barry’s Syrup. I usually prefer curves, but I could dig her, I think.

But… but… you should’ve gotten to this thread earlier. ::sniffle::

All right, fine. I’ll take Marius from Ann Rice’s Vampire Chronicles instead. ::sigh::

Becky Thatcher, from Tom Sawyer. (I’m willing to wait a few years till she is old enough to marry.)
Theodosia from The Robe.

Nick Carraway from “The Great Gatsby.” And Sam Waterston as Nick in the movie, too!

OK, maybe I was just a young perv, but even at 12 I knew what I wanted:

Becky Thatcher and Amy Lawrence.

I’m tempted to name Friday Jones from Heinlein’s Friday – but how’s a genetically unenhanced guy supposed to keep up with her?!

I’ld say Travis McGee, but as I recall all his SO’s conveniently died before the end of the book. :dubious:

Agent Pendergast from the books by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

Raistlin - Dragonlance
Drzzzt D_____ -The Dark Elf series.
Paul Jonas and !Xabbu - Otherland
Mr. Darcy - P&P
Richard Jury AND Melrose Plant - Martha Grimes’ various mysteries
