Quebec, esp. Montreal

YMF Southern state?

Louisiana. Seemed, in those days, like a foreign country.

Fav Mexican state

Yucatan.

YMF French city, excluding Paris?

Rodez. It snowed when I was there, several inches

Fav place where you were in the snow

On Xmas Eve, I was maybe 9? We were coming home from my grandparents house. It was softly snowing, sparkling like glitter against the night sky, silencing the normal city sounds. The only noise was the soft crunch of our boots across the yard. We were in our own snow globe, and it was amazing.

YMF snow activity

I was visiting Grenoble and had a free day, so I took a ski trip into the French Alps. It was the only time I’d ever been on skis. Amazingly, I didn’t break anything. Lots of fun and great food!

YMF beach?

Joe Batt’s Arm, Newfoundland. No pesky sand, no blazing sun, gregarious townspeople passing by to keep you amused. Lots of varieties of seabirds. Newfoundlanders define a Beach as a place the rocks are smaller than bricks.

Fav sea-bird.

Penguins. They exude cuteness. Which isn’t a bad thing.

Cormac McCarthy – But there are several Canadian and Australian authors above him.

Fav non-American authot

J.R.R. Tolkien, hands down.

YMF President of the 20th C.?

Theodore Roosevelt

YMF President of the 19th century?

Abraham Lincoln.

YMF President of the 20th century?

FDR; and I get a nice check every month to remind me.

Miles Franklin. Yes, I realize that people still read My Brilliant Career, but most people don’t even realize she wrote other books.

Before the miniseries South Riding a couple of years ago, I would have said Winifred Holtby.

YMF book you treasure that no one else ever seems to have heard of.

Aztec by Gary Jennings. A fun, exciting, sprawling historical epic.

And I had no idea that Miles Franklin was a professional boxer, in addition to her literary career! Wow.
Ignorance fought.

Fav professional boxer other than her?

That’s the second time I’ve posted to the wrong response, immediately after opening the thead, and they weren’t simulposts. I’m getting some kind of lag where several recent posts don’t come up.

YMF John Lithgow role?
