Carcassonne (My wife and I have always been a big fan of the board game, and when we visited the real place, that’s where I proposed. Also, it’s just beautiful.)

I hitch-hiked out if a Calabrian town with an old map, on a road rarely used any more, and got dropped at a wonderfully peaceful meadow, to the sound of distant cowbells and sleepy birds. Spent a half hour there, then a ride from a friendly local whose only English was “You Americano, me comunista”
Fav place in Asia
Never been, but I’ve interested in Japan since we had a Japanese exchange student stay with us when I was a kid (we’ve kept in touch ever since - 50-some years now!). Someday I’ll go.
