Sure! Waking on a boat, especially at anchor is sooooo cool!

Ok, time for seepy-bye…

I gotta say, I have never had a good overnight on a boat. My best friend had a, shall we say, unfortunate, boat about 15 years ago. One overnight was cuz the engine conked out after a knuckle headed third party was driving erratically. Much paddling to try to get to somewhere, but paddling a 26 foot boat against the wind doesn’t work. We ended up getting rescued and towed back to dock in the morning. I had relief pukes.

The other overnight was when we left a waterfront bar and, the going theory is, the driver only put one trim tab down, so we went a bit sideways. I was belowdecks, mixing drinks for the lovely ladies we had aboard. Boat on land is never a good thing. I do believe the boat was airborne for a little bit.

So FCM, I’ll politely decline the offer of boatage, in fact you prolly don’t want me on the thing. I may be bad boat luck.

I don’t think I’d like to eat a Turkey Buzzard (they only weigh about 6-8 lbs 8 foot wingspan), but the Kangaroo mice mice look pretty substantial. The cannibal ones don’t hang out around people, but the Deer mice jump right out at you when you mess with them.

Back during my floozy days I love sleeping naked on catamarans. Waking up to the tropic sun kissing my skin was such an erotic experience.

Yes, and don’t call it crap again lest I berate you loudly and often. You are a master craftsman, you do NOT build crap. It doesn’t matter what you think about the job, you do quality work.

It’s been a very long day, I got no sleep last night and our housekeeper was here this morning so I had to get up and leave. (Is that a first world problem or what?) We had breakfast at the diner in Black Canyon City and of course they have raised their prices again, they don’t really have a choice. I hope the inflation doesn’t cause another round of small local places going belly up.

They remodeled the dispensary and pulled down all of the plexiglass separators. I kinda figure they would stay up because they stopped people from touching the employees.

And that’s it and I’m out. Catch you all laters.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave

Whenever you’re ready. \

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 61 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 71 and partly N.O.S. for the day. I need to take care of some errands, so that I shall do this mornin’. One such errand will take me to :astonished:Wally Jr. :astonished: for a few needed items plus twuck needs to be fed and there is one of the cheaper places to do so. Outside of that sloth and general uselessness shall rule the day. Sup shall be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.

OW we anxiously await the update on your life.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, bother of bothers, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ amongst the general public attire. How I suffer!

Happy Thursday Y’all!

I can understand your reluctance. Too bad - boatage can be much fun. We’ve had our less-than-great outings, but we never got airborne. Of course, that’d be close to impossible in a sailboat unless you were going over a waterfall… :open_mouth:

< pause for pearl clutching and a brief attack of the vapors >

Life, indeed. 'Fess up - you’re drinking and carousing and canoodling and worst of all, you won’t even dust!!! Come back! All is forgiven!!!

I way over-caffeinated yesterday, so I didn’t fall asleep till after midnight. Apart from a couple of very brief wakings, I slept till a tad after 5. It’s a weird morning - warmer outside than it was when we went to bed! We’re promised 70° today, then it’ll gradually cool to low 20s on Sunday morning. Sheesh.

After I’m done with the babysitting thing, I’ll finish the second life ring, then clear all the sewing stuff off the dining room table. That should be the extent of my productivity.

Happy Thursday!!

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 42 degrees with an expected high of 47 and partly cloudy skies. It’s also my Friday and thank goodness for that!

I have met some Dopers IRL, some who no longer post here. In addition, I’ve met Swampy, Bumba, and FCM, of the current posters. They are wonderful people!

I definitely had a long and busy day yesterday and had to take additional time to stop to help the MPA through something. It took more time than I had to give, but, I don’t want her getting frustrated and it’s part of my job to mentor and train her. I remember when I didn’t have the support I needed, and it can be draining. I don’t want her to feel that way and I want her to be successful at her job.

I asked for and received credit hours to use for today because after my epic four-hour long Labor Relations training, I have meetings and ANOTHER training for RTW. After that, I need to draft up and send out a memo to the leadership staff providing a timeline and guidance on RTW. Fun times! During all this, of course, I will have all the usual emails, requests, and data calls rolling in.

I have not made ANY plans for this weekend. I need to take some to chill and just do what I want without being on any kind of timeline. I feel like I’ve been going a million miles an hour and I just need to stop. Hopefully, the “guilts” won’t set in and I can keep still.

I would love to see pics of your work, VanGo!

Well, on to my next cup of coffee and some more internet surfing before I begin the workday.

Same here. Most boats I’ve been on have suffered unfortunate accidents. The last one capsized in Lake Victoria. I’m also convinced that the ocean and water in general is out to get me, so while I do take a shower in the morning, any other water activities are out.

Now that sounds like a story and a half Chefguy.

It’s been a while since I’ve been on a boat; on my honeymoon I almost ralfed over the side (does anyone say that, and is it ralph or ralf? spell check thinks the former) while we were out watching spinner dolphins, but then again, the water was really choppy. I just like all the freakin’ cabinets on a boat. It’s pretty similar on a train - I love how everything’s organized and stowed away. I’m a hot mess IRL and my house somewhat reflects that, so the organizational equipment puts me over the moon.

It’s drizzly and gross and I’m debating whether to go for a stroll now before my meetings in the afternoon. Overlyboy ate and slept with fewer spasms and I’m trying not to celebrate too much. Overlygirl has been taking most of this in stride, too. I’ve promised her she can take me to the Y later on this week and give me a solid workout; my body will regret it, but I won’t.

Off I sulk to do things - I don’t want to do things; it’s a perfect day for a nap. But do things I must.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 17C/63F. The weather app says “You might be chilly today. There is still time to crochet yourself some friggin’ leg warmers”. App doesn’t know me very well then! It’s beautifully sunny out there, don’t know how warm it is as I’ve not been outside today. Back to working at home for a while until we go on our travels.

Sunny lateral flow tests are the home rapid antigen kits. I get packs of test kits from work as we’re still being asked to test regularly when we’re working on campus. I collected some the other day so we can take a box of them on holiday with us.

Taters you deserve a weekend of doing nothing except the things you feel like doing. Your posts wear me out just reading them, you’re always so busy - you definitely need a break for it all.

VanGo me too, pics of your work, please!

I have finally handed over the exam paper schedule, I’ve done as much as I can with it and resolved as many issues as possible. Now it’s someone else’s turn to look at it and see if they can improve it. I’ve got staff reviews to finish and a bunch of loose ends to tie up before the end of next week.

I finally got a call back from the vet, Ophelia is going in for dental surgery on Monday so all the cats will have to starve (oh, the humanity!!) from 10pm on Sunday until I drop her off at the vets at 7.45am on Monday. Hopefully she will be coming home that day, and we have a week to get her well again and eating so she can go to the cattery.

Our trip plans are coming together, I’ve printed out everything I can do, and I’m now starting to panic because I’ve only got another week to do loads of irk stuff! I’m sure it will be worth the effort though…

Mining out the fridge can yield unexpected bonuses, such as that package of ready-to-back chocolate chip cookie dough. Two of the dozen cookies are being digested as I type (yes, I did bake them first).

The Princess seems to think she needs something every time I go near the kitchen. She knows canned goo happens after DH gets home, unless she got it a little early because I needed to go to bed before then. Yeah, still a bit random on the sleep pattern, and DH’s recent snoring issues are not helping. His solution? He stopped at Home Depot and got me earplugs that are not compatible with sleeping on my side and would probably not allow me to hear the alarm if I had to set it (such as once I’m again among the working).

One of the ‘big three’ credit reporting agencies changed their process to upload data. It doesn’t work.

Morning all. Had to change checking ledgers, ran out of room on the first one (lasted a couple of years), but the account is balanced and all is well on the financial front. Will be finding out if all that gym exercising I have been doing has helped, just signed up to referee 3 youth soccer games on Saturday.

Smallest boat I’ve slept in was one of those X-tra long riverboats that are used for cruising…this one was on the Yangtze River in China (yeah, I’m bragging). Any other boats I’ve slept on have been in the 50,000+ ton range, so hopefully they won’t have problems.

boo fae, the crying and misery come Moanday morning will be a sight to behold among the feline members of your house…

Cookie, count me in as another intrigued about capsizing in Lake Victoria…

VanGo, your boating travails have convinced me not to get on anything smaller than a 150 passenger ship weighting at least 10,000 tons…and, yes, I would also like to see your crappy pictures.

Taters, sloth is a good thing, especially after an overwrough week. Take care.

Way, way, WAY TMI !!!

OK, Instant Breakfast has been downed and I really need to pay some attention to the kitchen before heading off to the gym. All y’all take care.

I must have the only two cats in the world who don’t like canned food. They free-feed the dry kibbles, and they lurve Temptations treats. But the few times I’ve tried wet food, they lick up the liquid and leave the rest. So I quit buying it. Cats is weird.

Toby was mega-cranky - hardly wanted to eat anything, so I figured he was tired. BINGO! A few minutes in his swing with some nice classical music and he went out like a light. Crabby as he was, I’m thinking he’s really tired and I’ll get a few hours of quiet.

FCD just called the guys who are supposed to paint and commission our boat, asking them to call him so he can be there when it goes in the water. Just a week or so to go. Yesterday we got the fresh water hose and a filter - it’s not supposed to give a “hose” flavor to the water, but the filter is for good measure. We shall see. And we’ve updated our spreadsheet - I need to go thru our old towels and such and gather up the ones that will live on board. So much to do and not a lot of time left. Daughter and I will likely be doing a fair bit of cleaning as we make the crossing. At least as much as we can do with 2 kidlets aboard (unless she can find someone to watch Toby for the day.)

Time to chase Taz out of my recliner so I can chill.

Ralphie will not eat gooshy food either. He just sniffed at it and walked away.

We were posted to the embassy in Kampala, Uganda at the time. My wife heard that the British sailing club was offering lessons for sailing a 2-person Laser. So she signed us up, despite my misgivings from having had bad experiences in boats in the past, and being basically a non-swimmer. We first had a classroom indoctrination on operating the boats, then met up at Lake Victoria on a fairly brisk day. Too brisk as it turns out.

They briefed us again, and then we launched. The boat shot across the water at an astonishing rate, and I finally said “Let’s try to turn this around and head back.” Well, when we tried to do that the sail went slack, then suddenly filled abruptly and caused the boat to tip onto its side. Both of us jumped off into the lake, luckily wearing life vests. We were on the windward side of the boat, which meant that the current kept trying to pull us under it. Meantime, my wife realized that her leg was tangled in the ropes, so was dealing with that while I was merely trying to keep from going under and expecting to be crocodile chow at any moment. Then the boat turned turtle.

Seemed like forever before an instructor in a motorized dugout spotted us and came putting over. By then I was in no mood for cheerful banter, so when the Brit said, with a big smile “Oh, a bit of trouble, eh? Want to right her up and give it another go?”, I replied “GET US OUT OF THIS FUCKING LAKE!” That was a chore in itself, as neither of us are small people, and the energy required to hoist ourselves into the dugout had already been fairly depleted trying to - you know - stay alive. So they took us back to shore, where we flopped on the beach like dead whales for awhile, then slunk away to our car and went home.

That was about 25 years ago and I haven’t been on a boat since.

That sounds “fun” for absolutely no value of fun.

cookie I have now laughed at your pain. I apologize.

On today’s schedule, I have a video chat with one of my dr’s, and we have a video chat with 'Beamette’s neurologist. We’re also hoping to take a run over to Trader Joe’s.

Happy Thursday everyone!

I was able to send different data to one (‘generic’) folder, but not the other data to the other one.

Currently playing the 60s Rock station on Amazon Music, and the song playing right now is “Louie Louie”. They’ve got it flagged as “explicit”. How can they TELL?

Maybe they’re just covering their bases?
