Your week in Spam?

I’ve got a Hotmail account, which as many will know tends to collect unsolicited E-mail like a dryer screen collects lint. While I’ve been using Hotmail’s bulk mail filter to dump the stuff, I thought it might be interesting to to take a typical week’s worth of Spam and break it down by subject. Well, maybe not, but we’ll see.

For the period 27 November – 3 December 2000:

Total bulk mail: 99 messages

Loan offers: 30
Links to Porn sites: 23
Moneymaking schemes: 9
Weight Loss schemes: 5
Car/truck sales: 4
Other: 28

So, teeming millyuns, what’s your weekly EWS (Estimated Weekly Spam)?

P.S. Spam of the week had to be the offer I received allowing me to purchase up to 359 million tons of Chinese anthracite coal at favorable prices. I have nothing to do with that industry. Er, Anthracite, you interested?

I don’t keep track of it; as soon as it appears in my mailbox, I head over to http://www.spamcop.net and see what I can do about getting their accounts canceled. If you haven’t heard of their service, I highly recommend it. I mean, sure, they’ll probably just get another address but I like to think I’m making it a little harder for them to keep it up. Kill the spammers!

hmmm…well, obviously not very interesting at all, then.
