Most recently, this happened while reading the Mandalorian thread. I had opened a YT link and watched it part way down the thread. I finished, hit pause, and went on scrolling.
Several times, as I was trying to read, the YT link would just randomly re-start. It was quite annoying. Is there any way to close the link or make it stop for good?
Both of those are poor substitutes. Doing either one of them will cause youtube to mess up the watch pointer, the red bar that remembers how much you’ve watched of the video.
It’s only a workaround. If you want an actual fix, you’ll have to reach out to CodingHorror, but it’s been going on for a while, so I wouldn’t count on it getting fixed any time soon.
When it happens to me, I select “duplicate tab” from the menu. It opens a new tab with the thread scrolled to the exact place I’ve read to, but no Youtube video playing. Then close the original tab.
This works on my browser, which is Firefox Portable. Other browsers may or may not have this facility.
This has been happening to me here for the past year plus, every time there’s a YT clip which I watch. Maddening. My quick and dirty solution is to mute the clip and let it roll in there somewhere upthread.
