Is there a SoCal Dopefest in the works?

I’m up for a get together (schedule permitting). Wouldn’t it be cool if we met in some really obscure place, such as Kramer’s Junction (out in the Mojave Desert)? There’s three gas stations and a Subway[sup]tm[/sup] there.

Just a note of warning…seems like everytime there’s a dopefest, I have to go to a funeral first!

So we need the southern group to chime in - how far north will you go? The Claim Jumper/Holiday Inn in Mission Viejo sounds good, but so does Mexican in Huntington Beach. I’ll check out the Italian restaurant in SJC to see if we can reserve room for a medium sized group. Next thing we need to agree upon is the date. Late September is good for the Beckwalls, since I’m teaching now this is a kinda busy time of year but I’ll be ready for a break by then.

Redlands??? Damn, we’re almost neighbors - just about 40 minutes from Palm Springs.

This is gonna be so cool…

Just to throw things out there for consideration…Labor Day itself is good for me, as is the next weekend 10/9 & 10. Sundays are better than Saturdays, but I’ll manage. Just tell me where and when.

Beckwall…even closer. I’m actually in Yucaipa.

Mission Viejo is about as far north as I want to drive…

Since I grew up in LA and have made the drive up from San Diego more often than I could count, I’d drive up to Huntington Beach. Sure, I’d prefer closer, but I’d do it.

So let’s take a vote on the date, then we can decide where to go. The only real options for me are 9/25, 10/2, 10/9 and maybe 10/16, all of these are Saturdays.
Once we work out the time, then we can find a place that’s good for everyone. I’m kinda leaning toward Mission Viejo or SJC, depends on whether or not we just want to do dinner or also throw in a beach fest somewhere.

Maybe everyone should pick out two dates that would work for them, so we can narrow it down a bit. We should be able to throw something together in the next few weeks, I think. Keep me posted, OK?

If we are voting here, I cast my vote for 10/9. On that date, I can drive anywhere anyone wants. SJC, Huntington, Mission Viejo…it’s all good.

I used to live in Calimesa ('90-'97), right where Bryant St. dead-ended. Did they ever make the street go through towards Singleton Road?

I live in Apple Valley now, but I do like a alot of the ideas being flung around here. Let toss in the idea of a Indian gaming casino Like Morongo or Pechanga or any other places that have lounges, cocktails and food. The beach idea sounds great too. Labor Day though, doesn’t.

9/25 - Nay (Laughlin)
10/2 - Yay
10/9 - Yay
10/16 - Nay (Son’s B-Day)

Ha…as kids we used to call that place “Coroners Junction” with all the greasy spoons there…a scant 42 miles away from my current house…

9/25 - Yay
10/2 - Yay
10/9 - Nay*
10/16 - Yay

*I feel the need to explain this one. I will be running the Long Beach marathon on 10/10. So while I will be headed up to LA from San Diego on 10/9, I will be attending the expo and otherwise staying off my feet so I don’t screw up my race the next morning. I’m also a complete mental case the day before a marathon. I really don’t think I should subject you all to that.

If, however, any of you want to visit the LBC and cheer me on, well, I won’t stop you.

I’ll watch this, too. I’ll help some if the self-elected dictat, commanda, leader needs some.

I have no funerals currently scheduled, so all the proposed dates look good.

9/25 - Yay
10/2 - Yay
10/9 - Yay
10/16 - Yay

JustPlainBryan and I would also be coming from the San Fernando Valley, and we would most certainly prefer Huntington, too. We can go to San Clemente, if that’s the final vote, though.

I can’t do 9/25, but all the other dates look fine to me.

I’m afraid if it’s going to be on a Saturday, I’m out… for the next few months I’ll be working 16 hour days on Saturday and Sunday.

Ah, well… next time!

Astroboy14, I got all excited when I saw your name…but sounds like you can’t be there. Are you at least gonna make some big dollars working all those weekend hours???

Labor day weekend Nay
I get back to you on the rest.

Labor Day Weekend Nay
10/2 Nay
(my band is playing both days)

All else should be OK for us.

With apologies to those who can’t make it, I think that we should go with Saturday night, October 9th. And maybe Mission Viejo area is a bit more accessible for some than going into Huntington Beach area? Someone mentioned the Claim Jumper, and I say if they will give us some reserved space then that sounds like a fine idea.

It’ll take awhile to get this all figured out, who’s coming and not coming, but I promise to send e-mails to all involved. And please feel free to send me a message, too.

Kool. That is the one Saturday I have off!

Goody, goody, goody!!!

Do we have to wear carnations so we can recognise each other? Nametags? Funny hats?

Here’s the info on the
Claim Jumper

Saturday October 9th sounds great to me and silenus, I like the funny hat idea
