10-6 Justice League: BEST Joker episode EVER

Mark Hamill i s a Genius.

The writers of this Show have caputured the pure INSANITY that is the Joker, and hamill brings him to life with the zanyness of Ceaser Romero and the twisted evil of Jack Nicholson. As this seiode is only 60% over, I’ll wait to post more. BUt MAN this so kick ass!

I’ve been very disappointed with Justice Leuge lately. The animation has been great. The IDEAS and concepts have been great. But the scripts, acting, believability, and pacing have been just god awful. I so wanted to like the Secret Society and Terror eps, but so much of it was just grating and silly. It just feels amatuer, as if a fifteen year old fan had written the characters, instead of the same people that did BTAS and AoS

So I really look forward to this ep, because Hamill is a fantastic Joker.

I was disappointed by Justice League when it first started. I don’t want to hijack this thread to rant so I’ll stop there. I just want to say that the episodes as a whole have been progressively better and better. It’s not something I’ll actively remind myself to watch but I do enjoy it when I see it. The last one I saw with the alternative version of the Justice League was actually quite good. Hopefully this trend will continue.

My bigest problem so far in this seris has been the TOTAL disreguard for Green Lantern’s yellow weakness. Up until Kyle Raynor, I coul have had a field day beating up all the GL’s with a Yellow basball bat. (Allen Scott included). But we see this GL blocking Sinestro’s ray blasts with his ring, as well as pretty much anything else. I could live with this, as Kyle Restarted the Corps and did in fact give John Stewart a ring (after his friend was gay-bashed and almost killed Kyle took a vaction from being GL for a bit). But Kyle didn’t become a Lantern till after Hal Jordon destroyed the central battery. Since there has been no mention of Hal, and it looks like John has absobered much of his sersonality (Military background; condsidered the best GL ever. etc) it think they are mixing and matching alot of green lantern lore. And lets face it, there is enough history to justify a Green Lantern Show (THis is not A REAL show just so you know). It just seems so damn inconsitant, and doesn’t make sense. When you look back to Kyle Raynor apearance on Superman, he had the Yellow impuraty and in fact had to recharge his ring. This GL only had his ring die on him ONCE, which is ODD becasue the pre-Paralex Lanterns had a 24 hour limit on their rings. My other problem is that batman doesn’t get enough chicks. He IS batman after all. And superman hates him casue Bruce sexed up lois. SEXED HER UP GOOD.

I’d also like to see Ra’s Al Ghul, after todays Joker show, I think batman’s villian deserve a bit more spotlight. I’m tired of watching Superman’s foes run this seris Brainiac, Lex Luther, and Darkseid all had major roles to date, and as ** cletus** said, they were all weak. THe batman Villians are much more complex. THey have to be, in order to defeat them bat man doens’t just fly around smashing though walls, he has to out think them before it ever comes to blows.

Question: how long has it been in the comics since any Lantern has had to deal with the yellow thing?

And yes, Ra’s Al Ghul is a great potential villain for the whole team. Wouldn’t be surprised to see one in the future.

I’d just like to say…
“It’s about time!” indeed! That was one HELL of a “payoff” on the whole Hawkgirl/GL romantic angle!

I mean, my god! That was the most romantic scene—and kiss—in American animation since…well, I shouldn’t say it was “the” most romantic scene ever, but it’s got to be in the top five.

And we finally get to see Hawkgirl’s face.
…and, for the record, I’d like to say that “yellow” is perhaps, long precedent or not, the lamest super-weakness that I have ever heard of. It’s up there with “can’t stay out of water too long before drying out.”

about 5 years leaper. All the GL rings had the yellow inpurity before Hal took out Oa and the central battery. Kyle was teh first GL with no weaknesses in his ring; Alan Scott had a wood impurity, which I’d have to say is 1000 times dumber then the color yellow. The man could be taken out with a slingshot and a little wooden ball for christ sake. Also, I saw the weakness of the ring as a way of stoping the GL’s from becoming godlike in power. There is nothing they can’t do, and nothing that can stop them without that impurity.

The Cartoon GL’s don’t have the yellow weakness. Never have. Since the comic book doesn’t either at this point, it’s no big deal.

You notice that J’onn doesn’t have pyrophobia either.

It avoids the “flaming yellow kryptonite” syndrome of early JLA comics. As a trade off, no one’s quite as powerful as they are in the books. Yeah, John can make anything, but whatever he makes is always pretty easily broken. M ore of concern is their treatment of how GL and Flash use their powers. Under the last few episodes, the two most powerful characters have been the lamest! But even that’s getting better.

And yep, that was a good episode. I concur with cletus, it started out weak, but has been getting progressively stronger as of late.

Oh, and I think Hal was never a Lantern in this continuity. John and Kyle (seen in Superman’s series) are the only earth Lanterns.

Which is about 1000-fold more respectful to Hal and his fans than what the comics did to him.

Hal did appear on Duck Dodgers. So he has that going for him.

I have a question for the comic book geeks in the audience: does this version of the Royal Flush Gang have any counterpart in the comic books, or were they made up for these episodes? (A strongman, a stretchy guy, a pyrokinetic…hey, it’s almost the Fantastic Four!)

I do like how they’ve improved Flash and Green Lantern from the way they were in the first season. It’s nice to see Green Lantern show some imagination from time to time, and to see Flash be not completely useless. The ending of this particular episode was a bit too cheesy for my tastes, but it was still pretty good.

That was the best episode ever. I wish I hadn’t missed the first few minutes. The clock, the joker, The Flash actually able to do something. It was a surprise to see Hawkgirl take off her mask. I actually was begining to think that was her actual face since they’ve implied she’s an alien.

My only complaint is how the strong guy was too much a match for Supes. I mean, I know they weakened Superman in the past in exchange for making Kryptonite less common than sea salt, but he’s still Superman!

I wouldn’t mind so much if they’d be consistent about how weak he is. Sometimes he can be knocked out by falling rubble. Sometimes he can withstand punches from being who can level mountains with their bare hands.

I love the Justice League cartoon because, compared to other cartoons, it seems so much more realistic, and, adult I guess you could say in that it actually has scenes where people get killed and sometimes the Justice League members actually get hurt, granted, they only show scratches, but still, compared to other “action” cartoons where nobody even gets a scratch… They haven’t reached Japanese anime levels yet, but I think that this is a big step forward in American action cartoons. Although I think that it did surpass anime in that Green Lantern and Hawk Girl did actually kiss and admit their true feelings for each other, unlike in anime where usually that doesn’t happen.

Anyway, getting to the point of the original post, the Joker episode, one things confuses me, the Joker says he’s immune to the girls power because he’s already insane. How then, was the girl able to use her power on him in the end? The only three possibilities I can think of are:

 1. The Joker only thought that he was immune.
 2. The girl has the ability to make crazy people even crazier.
 3. The writers forgot that the Joker was supposed to be immune.

I’d say that ordinary exposure to Ace’s influence didn’t affect the Joerk, which is why he thought he was immue. With her power turned up though, the Joker went positively catatonic.

Well, he clearly knew that at sufficient intensity, she could take him out, else he wouldn’t have kept the neutralizing head-band.

Yeah, I’d say the Joker’s claim was probably a self-aggrandizing lie, and to keep Ace from suspecting that he thought she could affect him. Otherwise, with her history, she probably would’ve mistrusted him from the start. As long as she thought that he thought he was immune, there was no reason for her NOT to believe his sweet talk.

Oh, and the Royal Flush Gang, to answer Orbifold’s question, have usually been criminals in weaponized suits (although I remember one version of King who had heightened charisma - almost to the point of mind control), so the concept of using “mutants” (to borrow Marvel’s term) is new, AFAIK.

Trivia: the five voices of the Royal Flush Gang are apparently (from what I’ve read on TV Tome) the five voices of the Teen Titans. Who does who? Match the Titans character as closely as you can to the equivalent on the RFG (e.g. shapeshifter to shapeshifter, strong man to strong man)! I’d be very surprised if this wasn’t an “easter egg” to fans of DC-based cartoons.

And it’s pretty clear to me that the ending scenes were to set up some major league (no pun intended) conflict for the season ending saga, which apparently involves an invasion by Thanganar and an appearance by Hawkman. I got the sense that Hawkgirl was trying to tell John about Katar when he was asking her why they couldn’t get involved, but she couldn’t bear to reveal that she already had a husband/lover and ended up just giving him the first excuses that came to mind. In her defense, the series obviously depicts her as thinking she’ll never see Thanganar, or Hawkman, ever again, so it’s inevitable that she’d have given in to temptation… Can’t wait to see how that turns out!

I think you’re wrong. When Kyle fought Sinestro his ring had the Yellow weakness.
I also agree with Apos that superman’s inconstancies from episode to episode are really annoying. One week he’s going toe to toe with Darkseid, next week some 20 year old punk is handing his ass to him, Makes no sense. The same thing happens with GL and Flash and pretty much everybody except Batman to one degree or another. I did find it odd that batman had some problems with plastic man…err Jack. I mean this guy is a lot less dangerous then Clayface, while having similar fighting styles and Bats handle clay face a lot better then that punk.

On the Joker not being affected by ace, you have to remember he’s an unreliable narrator, you can’t believe anything he says.

Or, there’s possibility—

 1. She couldn’t drive him crazy, because he was already insane…so she drove him sane.

Joker’s psyche was unable to cope with the horrors of the life that he’d lead, so it “shut itself down” as a defense mechanism.

Hmmm…can I borrow her for use on my (soon to be ex-)wife?

Ace could make a major fortune with that power!

I hate it when they start changing old story lines

B U T…

How many times can you read the same old comic book and still enjoy it?

A N D …

Then again I love hearing new versions of old songs.

I loved seeing the redemption of Solomon Mundy. Of the evil Superman lobotomizing his “killer”. A tie in of Thanagar with the Chthulu mythos.

I can’t wait to see the Hawkgirl/Man episodes.
