2007 Weight Loss Club, June

laughing…thanks WhyNot. I’m not really upset, just surprised at how large I must have gotten. I’m at the weight that last time I decided that I was getting too big to be. So after a month of sweating my over-large ass off I’m just starting. le sigh. But still…I feel a lot better, and look better…so that’s what is really important. I have another year or two before the little one gets big enough that I’m going to have to work to play with her. And that’s really why I’m doing this anyway.

How is everyone else doing? Thread has been quiet this week. I saw that Ginger went up, then back down…so that’s good. Somehow the image of dueling Gazzells makes me think of a discovery channel special gone horribly wrong.

The Wii version of DDR is going to incorporate arm movements as well as leg movements? My goodness! There is absolutely no way I am coordinated enough for that!

I’m playing Ultramix 3 for the XBox. I wasn’t really working up a sweat until I figured out that in Quest Mode, there are no breaks between songs. Now I get pretty darn sweaty every time. It also has a calorie-counter (which does change based on how many steps you hit in a given song, it’s not pre-generated) and it also stores calorie-information in terms of day, week, year, etc. I’m still pretty bad, but I am getting better, and it is FAR more fun than any other kind of working out I’ve done before.

I typed up this whole post earlier then…nothing but hamsters on a smoke break
Anyway, in response to Ginger’s comment about staying hydrated and drinking enough water I quoted this e-mail sent to me by my mother today.

Okay, I’d like to formally join up, now that I have some confidence I actually can lose weight. (Yeah, yeah, I know that sounds stupid, not seeking online support from great dopers until I’ve succeeded on my own.)

Had to actually shake out of denial and find out how much I weighed early in June, for a passport application. 327 pounds. That pretty much got me motivated to do something about losing. I’ve been making a concerted effort to walk in the evenings and weekend mornings, eating smaller portions and a bit healthier, drinking more water, and so on.

Decided to face the scale again today. 314 pounds and most of another. That sounds like a pretty good start to me! I know that I probably will find it harder to keep up such results, but if I can get anywhere from 4 to 8 off each month I’ll be loving it!!

Just wanted to get this in before the July edition starts.

Welcome chrisk! You’re off to a good start!

Sigh. -2.5#. So much effort and so few snacks and so little to show for it.

Losing 2.5lbs is nothing to sneeze at, great work!

I have really started running again and I’ve dropped a few more pounds the last two weeks. Did a long day today, ~20+ mile bike ride followed by 5 miles jogging at the track. Lets me justify a big (but healthy!) breakfast. Got a small semi-regular group of people running with me at work which is nice, even the folks who are walking rather than running. It’s cool seeing them get out and just be active regardless of level, that’s the key.

Jeez Louise! I went to my first party since starting this whole thing, and WOW was that hard! I didn’t go hungry, but I didn’t eat a lot of the things that looked good (like potato chips and the dip with the veggie tray), I tried to make the best choices possible, and still used up 34 points in the 8 hours I was there! My daily allotment, of course, is less than that, so I dipped into my weekly bonus points early this time.

Still, it’s great to know I *can *do it. But I think I’d better not schedule more than one party a week!

The July thread is now open for business.
