2007 Weight Loss Club, June

That’s a great story Arien. Of such things is success crafted.

Those are the hardest days. It’s an effort of will to distract yourself from either the hunger, or the temptation to just sit there. So I force myself to get up and do my runs…good thing about them is that I really don’t feel hungry afterwards…so it’s a lot easier to have less for dinner.

I’ll be getting a scale this week and starting to track my progress. My clothes are fitting a lot better, but since I’m in my ‘fat’ clothes right now that’s not saying much. My goal is to get down to around 195 or so. I’m probably at around 235-240 right now. So I have a ways to go…but like someone else said upthread. I didn’t put this weight on overnight, so it might take a while to get it all off.

I have officially strained my hamstring from overuse. I have been told to “give it a rest” for a few days. :frowning:

It doesn’t hurt to use, but it is stiff and sore and hasn’t been getting better.

I took last night off and this morning and will take tonight and tomorrow off, but am hoping to get back into it on Thursday.

Khadaji, I’m sending healing vibes your way! Hope you feel better soon.

Hey Atrael that’s what I keep reminding myself. I put this weight on at a rate of about 5 lbs a year over the last, oh, 8-10 years. If I can lose it slightly faster than that I’ll be doing great.

Meanwhile, my walking schedule has gone to hell this week because of my work schedule. But I’m just going to do what I can and get back to the routine next week when things even out a bit.

My weight today is 171 which I can live with.

I did start tracking my caloric intake using LifeForm software. I know I should have been doing that all along.

Yesterday my daily total was about 1723 (I had to approximate some things I ate because I don’t always measure). I think if I can get my daily caloric intake down around 14-1500 and keep walking I’ll be able to lose.

We just returned from three days of fun in the sun in Ocean City, MD. My parents had never been to the Atlantic so we thought it’d be a nice treat. So there were a few days of crappy eating, but I’m back on track tomorrow morning. I wonder how much I gained.

So I had my first weight track since I joined WW a week ago, and I’ve officially and in the permanent record lost 6 pounds! Yay! I got my first little red milestone star already (5 pounds lost)

I’m astounded at how easy it’s been, and how I’m not hungry at all. In fact, last night I went a little nuts and had a homemade caramel lava cake (4 points) *and *a frozen banana (2 points) covered with chocolate shell (6 points) - and still I ended up not using 4.5 of my weekly points (which reset today.) I’ve got more energy and I’m in a better mood, and my fingers and joints aren’t so sore. I was actually able to sit tailor style yesterday and my knees weren’t stiffly sticking up in the air! My intestines have settled down after their initial WTF?! over so much raw veggie fiber. My family LOVES the food - they’re happier with this food than my old cooking!

I’m adding exercise for real this week - time to dust of the ol’ Gazelle. My friend has a spare room upstairs (we both have apartments in the same building) and we’re turning into a little fitness room - dueling Gazelles! I think she has some free weights as well, and we’ve got a couple of Aeromats for stretching and yoga. She’s an extremely driven person, and likes to nag and make me feel guilty, so she’s the perfect exercise partner!

I know it won’t stay at a rate of 6 pounds a week, but I’m sure glad it starts there. What a great reward for starting, you know?

Good for you, WhyNot! I think if I lost 6 pounds in a week I’d pee my pants and pass out from shock.

My exercise regimen has gotten a bit of a boost. My husband bought me a Wii last week and I’ve been playing Wii Sports like a mad woman. It’s a nice supplement to my bicycling because it provides more of an upper-body workout. I can feel my back and arms getting stronger already. I’ve been playing a combination of sports, usually bowling, tennis, baseball, and boxing. The boxing is really hard work, but putting full effort into any of them is enough to get me sweaty and get my heart rate going. They’re coming out with Dance Dance Revolution for the Wii later this year so I think I’m going to hold out and get it for Wii instead of Xbox 360 like I’d been planning.

WhyNot, that’s fantastic! Keep it up!

yellowval, come to the DDR dark side…

I want to. I do, I do!

Actually, when my husband said he bought something for me last week my first thought was that he bought DDR. I had a bit of a WTF!? moment when he said it was a Wii but now I love it. DDR for the Wii will incorporate arm movements using the Wii controller and nunchuk.

Okay, I’m completely non-technical, and don’t think I’ve ever even seen a Wii. How is this good for upper body strength? Can you elaborate?

WTG, WhyNot!

It’s more for an upper body cardio workout, those Wiimotes aren’t really that heavy so I don’t think you can really use it for strength training.

Well, I’m sure I’m not explaining it very well, but with the Wii, you have to swing the controller to hit/throw the ball or punch your opponent/bag. So, for instance, you hold the controller like a bat and swing at the ball on-screen. I like to do the home run derby. In order to hit it out of the park, you have to swing pretty hard. For boxing you hold the controller in one hand and the nunchuk in the other and punch your opponent/punching bag. That wears me out the fastest; I punch pretty constantly when I’m using the bag. Playing Wii isn’t going to build muscle the way, say, lifting weights would, but after playing Wii for an hour I can definitely feel it.

Here’s a video that shows what Wii boxing is like. It has a cute little girl in it too.

You can bet someone out there is working on third-party addon to put something like 5-pound weights on the Wiimote though. :stuck_out_tongue:

Pretty much, yeah.

I was thinking, put on some wrist weights.

WhyNot! AWESOME!

Thanks for the explanations about the Wii!

Yesterday, as expected, I was higher due to lack of water (bad!) and over-consumption (which was not really a concern, I do it once or twice a year) while on vacation. The scale was at 174; this morning it’s 170.5. So really, kids, drink your water! Being well-hydrated makes a big difference.

Well, that was depressing. Got on the scale for the first time today after about a month of diet/exercise. I came in at 242. While I did have my clothes on, and can take off about 5 - 7 lbs for that, I still have a long way to go…sigh. What really bothers me is that I know I’ve lost a significant amount…everything I wear is loose on me right now…so how much was I up to before I started? Oh well…my goal is around 195, so probably about 35 to 40lbs to go.

But wait, you’ve been exercising, right? So it’s a good bet that you’ve put on a lot of muscle, and at the same time lost a lot of fat. So your new 242 may be much, much smaller and fitter than your old weight, but the scale might not have budged (In other words, you might *still *be 242, not newly 242.) If things are fitting looser, then you’re on the right track. Here’s a fairly disgusting picture of plastic models of one pound of muscle and one pound of fat. Quite a volume difference there - the fat takes up twice the space the muscle does, and is lumpier to boot.

File this under rationalization or good cheer, whichever works for you.
