2010 Emmy Awards

It was hilarious how Joel McHale towered over Jeff. It looked like some sort of visual effect.

Actually, I think she fixed the snaggletooth. Her teeth looked pretty straight last night.

I’ll take your word for it. I can’t bear to look!

Yeah, it did. Though in fairness to Probst, at 6’4 McHale does that to most people; seeing him interviewed by Ryan Seacrest once was really funny for the same reason.

Speaking of McHale did Community win anything substantial? It was my favorite new show of the past year by far, though I haven’t seen Modern Family which is evidently really good.

Wrong. Check this out!

Just realized, after reading Alan Sepinwall’s post on the Emmys, that they left **David Mills **out of the In Memoriam segment. Unbelievable!!!

Besides being nominated for writing and producing on shows like “NYPD Blue” and “ER,” he also won two Emmy’s (for David Simon’s “The Corner”). The guy was almost as crucial to David Simon’s projects as Simon is. Heck, he even died while on the set of “Treme.”

I knew that the Emmy voters tended to ignore David Simon projects but this is ridiculous.

I’m sure Community didn’t win anything; I have them on my Facebook and they would have posted congratulations to their [writer, lighting guy, makeup person] if that had happened.

I thought the John Lithgow-Ann-Margret height discrepancy was equally amusing. Basic googling says Lithgow is 6’4" and Ann-Margret is 5’5".

A friend of mine said Levar Burton was on the In Memoriam section, but he seems to be alive and as far as I can tell well on all the Internet sites (and if a celebrity so much as sneezes Wikipedia starts hanging out in the driveway to make sure they’re the first to add the death).

She’s insistent though that he was on there, saying it was a Kunta Kinte clip. Does anybody know if they had a clip from ROOTS that had him as well as an actor who has died in the past year?

That clip was for David Wolper, who produced Roots.

And, yeah, I did a double-take as well – but no, Levar Burton is alive AFAIK.

Thanks-

Found the In Memoriam section. He’s at 3:30or thereabouts.

Man, TV lost some biggies this past year. I didn’t realize Merlin Olsen died (not that he was a biggies, but memorable though).

It was for the gentleman who produced(?) Roots. Sorry, not sure in what capacity he was involved or what his name is, but there was indeed a clip of Burton as Kunta, I assume perhaps because the man’s name isn’t immediately recognizable as some of the other people’s.

Community didn’t even get nominated for anything. They were completely snubbed. It made me sad.

Here’s a better look at CH’s dress, which was almost as ugly as JJ’s. “Saloon girl gone bad,” indeed.

For those who watched the show (I just watched clips) how was Jimmy Fallon as a host? On SNL and the episodes of his talk show I’ve seen he’s always seemed extremely affable and energetic and cute and eager to please guy who, as Johnny Carson allegedly said about Chevy Chase, “couldn’t ad lib a fart after a baked bean dinner”.

I thought he did fine, but it’s time for Tina Fey to host.

I could easily tell that part one was Elton John and the last bit was Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day, but I’ve got no idea who it was supposed to be in the middle. I was hoping someone would answer your question, but apparently not. So, again: who was he supposed to be in the shorts?

Boyz II Men.

“It’s so haaaaaaaard to say goodbyyye to yesterdaaaaAAAAAay.”

Thanks for answering.

It’s amazing that the Dope would have one of the two people in the world who would get that reference!

Pouring a bottle of beer (?) at Fallon’s feet and a comment in the song about Mariska Hargitay – what was that referencing? I’m still lost.

He was pouring a 40 for the death of the original Law & order - a practice common in the 'hood when one’s homie dies.

And it was part of the video for the song, wasn’t it?
