It’s not that fsu defense didn’t show up, Oregon is that good. When it was 18 to 13 I told my wife this is where Oregon opens it up, halftime is usually close and then by 4th qtr they are up by 21 typically.
This is like deja vu all over again. I got a job in San Francisco out of college, and moved there in the summer of 1981, when it was easy to get season tickets for the Niners. Rough, tough Dallas was supposed to wipe the floor with our “finesse” team in the NFC Championship. Didn’t work out that way.

I see this attitude from fans all the time and it’s pretty annoying. Instead of acknowledging that the other performed very well, they try to claim that their own team just didn’t play like they normally do, typically because theyou were expecting to be in a better bowl or they travel led or they were looking forward to cupcakes after the game.
I’m not an Oregon fan or an fsu fan, as an outside observer I can tell you that Oregon offense was simply too much for fsu’s defense.

They didn’t show a replay of before the pass. That was a QB handoff to the RB followed by a pitch to a WR, right?

Definitely. Though also the turnovers have to be accounted for, I think. FSU did put up 500+ yards on offense after all (though Oregon put up 600+).
I think a fairer result would have seen the teams separated by 10 points, to be honest.
The turnovers are absolutely a factor in the point spread. The first strip was just a good defensive play as was the field goal block. But there were a few turnovers that were not due to Oregon actions.
But we are still left with the following:
FSu could not stop Oregon
Oregon shut down fsu run game completely until the game was basically over
FSu moved the ball with passing pretty well at times but Oregon got some key stops also
I said Baylor should go for 2 when they scored their last touchdown, but I really didn’t expect it to matter in the end.
It seems like the Tide was deeply troubled by the “no means no” chant, their response has been no offense, man.
