I agree with him. He should have been handed the ball much more frequently than he got it, especially given the weather conditions. Woody Hayes would have had him run 50 times.
Don’t forget UGA going to OT vs GaSou.
And given the demonstrated uselessness of the rest of the game plan. Meyer takes the blame for bad play-calling this time. Elliott’s frustrated but that doesn’t make him a crybaby. He’s right.
He, Cardale Jones, and Joey Bosa are all going into the draft, btw.
Jones might be a perfect future prospect for some team with a first-class quarterback that’s only expected to play another two or three years. I think there’s a team in Boston like that, if only its name would spring to mind.
No, no… You can go ahead and forget that.
Dammitall to hell. It was encouraging to see Goff in fine form. If his receivers didn’t develop Hands of Stone at inopportune moments…if we had an O line that could run block; if we could stop an opponent’s running game (we’ve been gashed by Utah, UCLA, Oregon…); if we didn’t get hosed by the same set of officials for consecutive Big Games – we’d have won.
Ugh, Buckeyes. The potential for that type of performance was lingering all season, and it made them not so fun to watch. They just could never get their offense clicking on all cylinders. Now I know how Florida St. fans must have felt watching their team last year. Sluggish play and questionable coaching.
I just hope they can pick their heads up and get fired up for Michigan, because if they lose that game the knives will really come out.
Yup, it’s different when you play a ranked team for a change.
In other news, Wazzu’s QB got knocked cold in the 3Q and was hospitalized, but he had already put the game away and led his team into the top 20 (and still inexplicably behind the Ducks, who they beat in Eugene). I posted last week that he was taking a terrific beating every game, but now I think he really should quit, or at least transfer. He’ll be in a wheelchair before he can turn pro if he keeps playing behind that line.
Yeah, because the defending national champs who returned a bunch of starters are secretly terrible.
Didn’t seem like much of a secret to me.
College football fans are the worst.
Not terrible, but last year was last year, and they hadn’t done nearly enough this year to justify their #1 ranking.
Oh, that Ohio State game was satisfying. And then ND’s ugly uniforms and ugly play was almost the equalizer for Saturday. Almost. But they won. Lost 2 more key players to injury for Stanford, though. Ugh.
From what I saw of Stanford on Saturday night – their pass defense is weak, and their offense is McCaffery and a great OL. That was just enough to beat the Bears, but ND may fare better.
I can’t see people clamoring for Meyer’s scalp, considering his impressive first two Big Ten seasons. I think his team was not ready for a challenge against MSU and played not to lose all game long. Why they didn’t throw long more is beyond me since the Spartans play the run so much better than the pass. This was the least yardage gained by any Meyer team ever. Meyer simply got outcoached, and this was Dantonio’s best coaching performance ever. Maybe if you go back to Joe Paterno vs Miami and Jimmy Johnson might you find a better coached game.
If I’m a Buckeye fan, I’m worried about some of the big names jumping for the NFL and the potential toxic locker room atmosphere. They are going to Ann Arbor to play the best Michigan team in years, the Wolverines are hungry and I don’t think the Buckeyes are. Losing the last two games is a distinct possibility.
The weather was Michigan State’s best weapon on Saturday. It was very rainy and very windy in Columbus. Neither team was interested in throwing the ball much, especially MSU with their backup QBs in the game. The most surprising thing to me was that the Buckeyes could not stop MSU’s running attack knowing that that’s all they had.
Of course Meyer should be on a hot seat, but he did play right into Dantonio’s wheel house, who was content playing a field position game all day.
Your lips to God’s ears, as they say! Go Blue!
Regarding E Elliot’s comments into an open mike - I’m surprised part of their coaching doesn’t involve how not to look like a sore loser. I know that OSU is very accustomed to winning, maybe they need some lessons on how to lose?
It’s not that people want his scalp. I just look back to his last year at Florida and wonder if the guy’ll stick around if the BS gets to be too much. He’ll always be adored for last season, that was the most satisfying season in Buckeye history.
No question, but that’s football. Gotta be able to overcome that. Michigan St. overcame that, not having their starting QB, and some bad turnovers.
More important than the weather is that their D completely owned the interior. Hard to mix things up on offense when you keep going 3 and out.
My Nebraska Cornhuskers welcome #3 Iowa to Lincoln on Friday. Last time an unbeaten team came here, we won and took off some of the sting of our 5-6 season.
Husker fans are almost giddy in their expectations to beat Iowa. Never mind the Hawkeyes are likely a better team with better players with a more solid season… we have the power of positive thinking: “We did it to Michigan State, we can do it to Iowa”
On the bright side, we’ve kept just about every game close this year. On the not-so-bright side, all those close games (save one) ended up NU losses.
