Actually, Kate wasn’t calling the guy that Daddy told her to call.
She was starting to get suspicious of dad, and she was calling the Private Investigator that she had hired to do a check on Resa.

Hmm, the phone card would make more sense, since I doubt she has a pocketful of quarters. Who she’d call is anyone’s guess though. And they do need to be activated, but that’s no harder than making a call with the card. And you can do it with any new card, no proof of purchase required.
I’m pretty sure the laptops are Apple. The dark case with the glowing logo in the center. I haven’t bothered to look for the details, but I assumed that was a glowing Apple logo. Could be wrong.
Plus, “Kimberly’s Desktop” from Season One is more Mac -based than anythign else, but Jack’s desktop this year seems pretty generic.
Many of the laptops are Dells , most likely Latitudes. Inspirons have the half-moon Inspiron logo on them, Latitudes are a little more plain but have the circular Dell logo in the center. Possible they’re using the ultra portables, but they are usually silver, not black, but Dell did make special silver servers for use only in Swordfish, so they may have made special laptops for 24.
Trust me, I used to work at DHell for 2 years troubleshooting the portables. I recognize 'em.
I thought she used the card to knock out the CTU eavesdropping devices somehow. Jack’s camera didn’t work and then everbody’s audio went to static right before they stormed the building. I thought Nena had caused this somehow to get some dead air time with terrorist guy.
It didn’t seem all that upscale to me, like a nice store but not an ‘if you have to ask, you can’t afford it’ kind of store. Not out of place to happen to have phone cards, especially when its run by non-natives and in somewhere with a big immigrant population like CA.
If it wasn’t for the lock on that grating, she’d have gotten away from the FBI/CTU team. Once she’s on her own, she’d need to talk to a contact since she has no money to get anywhere, and her contact would probably be in another city so she’d need to make a long-distance call. I think her chance to use it would be after she got away from them. Oh, and activation is just calling a number and entering a number that’s on a sticker on the card, once she was in a position to make a call it would be easy to start by activating the card.
No, just unconscious and in the previews for next week, he wasn’t bandaged up or anything that would indicate a wound.
Re: the gift card/phone card debate.
There was a big ‘50’ on the card. Most gift cards I’ve seen come in increments of $10, $25, $50, $100, whereas phone cards would come in 30min, 60min, 120min, etc.
50 seems a more likely number to be on a gift card than a phone card, IMHO.
Maybe it was a “Get Out of Jail Free” card.
Silly thing: Just-a-tax-lawyer’s name is Larry.
Larry Parker?
Just one quick question: I missed the whole first season. Was Nina just as bone-chillingly evil then?
And what’s up with the President’s ex-wife. She so obviously has something up her sleeve. Wasn’t she the person who was kidnapped last season, the one the whole story revolved around?
Ok that was more than one question…
KGS, here’s a minute-by-minute recap of last season, on one big-ass page.
Nina’s character was more-or-less ambiguous until the last episode of last season, in which it finally came out in the open that she was in league with the baddies-- not to mention that she apparently killed Jack’s wife, who had just told him she was pregnant an hour earlier. Moral: Never put an ex-lover in charge of ensuring your wife and daughter’s safety-- it’ll bite you in the ass every time.
I thought the tax lawyer’s name was Terry. I was pretty sure Bob Warner told Kate to call Terry. Or is my hearing going? (not disagreeing with you, it’s just that’s what I thought I heard)
FWIW. I heard “Larry”.
One vote for “Terry.”
Both my boyfriend and I heard “Larry”.
Well, I guess I’m going to have to watch the Monday night repeat on FX to be sure - now that a nagging doubt has been instilled in my head…
It seemed to me that only Jack’s screen wasn’t working at first (the other lady could see and was translating for Jack). Then when the islamic guy hugged Nina it messed up the camera/audio (which was on her necklace). That’s when they got nervous and stormed the place, not knowing if they found the bug or not.
Is the magnetic stripe on a card enough to cause interference like that? I never would have thought of that.
It is defenitly a gift card, I really think I saw a $ sign in front of the big “50”. I thought that was what messed up Jack’s camera thingy. Why?! no idea but I figured it was a scientific thing I could not figure out anyway, like the stripe messing up the waves or something.
Does anyone else here think that Mason will check out in some sort of extreme sacrifice near the end? He’s gonna croak anyway, so I figure he’s going to go out in style…saving LA in the process…
…like yelling “GRENADE!!!” and thn throwing himself on the bomb right before it goes off, thus containing the blast and ending his own life at the same time?
That’d be kewl!
Oh, yeah. I think he’s going to make some sacrifice for Jack, maybe saving Jack or Kim from certain death and sacrificing himself in the process, to make up for last year, or should I say, that other day.
Perhaps throwing himself in front of a bullet meant for Jack or Kim, or defusing the bomb at the last minute or something like that.
Yes, Mason will be checking out in a Blaze of Glory.
How about Nina? Will she make to the end of the day?
(No spoilers, please!! Just speculation.)
