"24" Season 2, Episode 8 - 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (SPOILERS)

Huh? I don’t think that Nina believes the bomb to be in San Diego. The impression I got was that she wanted to go to San Diego (rather than back to L.A., where they were threatening to take her), because it would be a good (and close) place for her to pick up a transport out of the country. This was the whole demand she was making – I help you, and you let me live, let me free, and let me out of the country. She killed terrorist guy so that she would be the only person with the info they need, and it would help her achieve her demands.

I don’t think she wants to go to where the bomb is. She just refuses to tell them until she gets there and has a transport arranged. Jack agreed to go to San Diego, but said she has to tell them when they land, and then she goes nowhere until they confirm (which I presumed to mean confirmation from L.A. that they found it and the location was correct).

Right – and I’m still a bit unsure about the guy she reached. The one she wanted to talk to (that she had worked with earlier) was “out of the office”, and she had to work with Paul instead. I’m not sure I trust this completely. I think there has to be some significance there.

I was thinking that the reason Nina wanted to go to San Diego was that she didn’t want to be caught in the blast should the bomb go off before they can get to it.

Kind of. All of the main storylines involving the revenge plots and election plots were tied up pretty nicely. The only real question that remained at the end of the season was “Who is Nina working for?” Jack had a gun in her face and she said “Don’t you want to know who I’m really working for?” and we never got the answer.

Looked like a USB keychain drive to me. Either to copy the files off the computer for use in a later episode, or how the PI brought the programs he used to crack open the files in the first place. Maybe both.

Ah. You’re right. The bomb is in LA, she wants to get out of range. But still, with Lost Terrorist Guy at the wheel, where Faheen things the bomb is and where it actually ends up may be two different things.

I do like rehashing the show with you guys…I forgot that Kate didn’t get her original PI, but had to make do with someone else.

I wonder where Abuser Dad is? Last time we saw him, he was lying unconscious on the hospital grounds.

Whoa, i have to wait three whole weeks for the next one?? Narrrggghhh!!!

i don’t think Warner would knowingly pay for a bomb to blow up his hometown with him in it. But he is still a bad dude.

Here’s my guess as to how the Warners tie into this.

Bob Warner is telling the truth, he’s working for the CIA or whatever. This would back up his statement to his daughter about checking Reza out: he probably had to since his company was involved in Gov’t operations. So lets say Sayed Ali (the terrorist they were sending money to) finds out through a mole in the FBI/CIA/etc about Warner’s company working for the Gov’t and possibly trying to set him up for something. Ali then decides that the nuclear explosion he was planning can also be used to take them out as well. So he decides to have the bomb go off at the wedding, thereby taking out Warner and Reza (and probably the rest of the company too), and accomplishing his terror mission of setting off a nuke in LA. The delivery guys were probably going to leave the truck at the wedding (what was printed on the side of the truck?) where it would fit in with the rest of the catering and other wedding types. Although now that’s probably not going to happen according to plan, especially since the delivery guys had their little argument.

I just had another thought. (I have to celebrate these things, when they happen… )

I’m wondering if the significance of Other P.I. is that this guy is going to get killed by the kidnappers, and eventually Kate is going to have to hook up with Original P.I. to solve the rest of the mystery. If this is the case, the other P.I. (Paul) would basically be equivalent to the Star Trek “red shirts” in the original series.

Oh, by the way – I think somebody was wondering earlier about when the wedding was supposed to be. I was under the impression that it was supposed to start about 3 or 4 PM. I believe in the first episode, when we first meet the Blonde Girl Family, they said something about “being married in 7 hours”. Well, that was around 8:30, so 7 hours later would be in the 3-4 PM range.

This certainly works as an option, too - what do you say, orr (and any others who get early access - and how do you do that?) - please do not post that info within KtK’s standard 24 thread (but you are of course welcome to offer reviews and such after the show airs, right?), and stash your spoilers in a different thread, labelled like Kinsey suggests…

easy and accomodating…

It said “Americas” or “Americans”, something like that.

Those sneaky terrorists and their clever disguises!!!

I’m now guessing that the Just-A-Tax-Lawyer is Warner’s contact with the CIA. I also support the idea that he’s probably being used by his CIA contact.

This hour was quite excellent.

If you are planting a nuclear bomb in L.A. that will go off around 4-6 pm and hope to drive far enough way to get away from the nasty stuff, you either have a very small bomb or a helicopter to get out.

It would be difficult to get out on the highways. There would be way too much traffic.

I suppose the best way to go would be to head north on I-5 over the Grapevine and into the Central Valley and hope the Transverse Range can provide some shelter.

Man, I’m sounding like a survivalist here.

How am I getting these episodes before they air? Simple. There’s a MOLE at the Fox Network…

Nah. As I understand it, new episodes are sent via satellite out to the stations early in the morning the day they air so that they can be cut for commercials. Anyone with the patience and a dish can grab that signal.

So I’m guessing that someone out there is grabbing that signal, encoding it, and releasing them out on the internet where they can be downloaded.

Sorry about the early spoilers, guys. I won’t do anymore. Because of my schedule, I’m not able to watch 24 when it airs. I don’t have a VCR (that works, at least), so I started downloading episodes that I missed. Then I noticed that episodes were being released before they aired and that, judging by the download stats, a lot of people were watching it. I figured that on a board this size, chances were that someone else would be downloading and viewing the episodes before they aired, just like I was, and that I’d be able to discuss the show with them while the show was still fresh in my mind and while I was at home to post. So the past couple of weeks, I went ahead and started the threads off early to see if anyone else was on to trade speculation at the same time I was. It turns out the answer is, “no”, so I’ll cut it out. Sorry again if I spoiled anything. I should have figured that some people would see the spoiler tag early and, not knowing about the episodes being released, would figure that it was a joke post and read it anyway.

OK, enough of that. Back to the show.

I can’t figure Sherry out. Apparently, she struck a deal with the reporter for his release; He gets out and calms the fears that he’s been abducted, he does not go public with his speculation, and in return, he gets an exclusive to report from within the OC. Ok, we know that he got out, and we know that Armas (the guy who let Sherry into the holding room) is the one that released him, but is Sherry the one that actually authorized his release? Did she even have the authority to do that? The one thing that’s pretty clear to me is that reporter was released because “they” knew he would go public with his speculations, and that he would tell the public that the Prez knew all along and didn’t tell them.
Regarding Kim “Hey Everyone, A NUKE IS COMING!” Bauer; My speculation is that the cop is going to confirm the public’s fear about a terrorist strike. The reporter set the kindling, and the cop is going to provide the fire. The reporter tells everyone a bomb’s coming, and along comes the Sheriff saying, “Yup, it’s a nuke. I heard it straight from CTU.”

More baseless speculation: Nina does not know that location of the bomb. Eventually, Michelle will be able to filter out the airplane noise and translate what Fahin said to Nina which will turn out to be something like “Screw you, bitch”. There will be a period of time when Jack is operating under the assumption that Nina does know, but CTU won’t be able to get in touch with him because of the plane crashing.

Many thanks to you, orr. Both for your restraint and explanation of your sources  That was driving me nuts.

YAR MATEY!!

Is that Mikey Palmiesi of the Sopranos as the P.I.?

Ah, the wonders of a VCR… It said “American Delivery”.

Oh, the irony…!

I’m sorry, orr, but that’s not quite right. I work in broadcasting, and when an affiliate airs a network show, they pick up the feed live from the network as it airs. So while you’re watching it at home, it’s being rolled live from the network in NY. There are already pre-built black holes in the show, where affiliates can air local commercials.

This differs from syndicated shows, such as Star Trek, that don’t come from a network. These shows can be caught off the bird and aired at the station’s discretion.

If you’re downloading them off the internet I’m not sure how it got there in the first place. Is that even legal?

I just assumed the plane explosion was a ploy by Jack to get Nina to spill the beans, and pronto!

Kim’s annoying, one note character of constantly screwing up, constantly going against her father and then calling him sobbing for help…they shoulda killed Kim, instead of the mother, last time around.

I haven’t figured out if Palmer’s wife is good or evil again. Seems like it would be better to let her surprise everyone by being noble this time.

Good episode, all in all…BTW, I bought Season 1 (6 disc) box sets for both my brothers who missed out last season’s fun. I found them on line for $43.

If Palmer’s wife is virtuous instead of evil this season, I would be shocked beyond belief. She is the likeliest person to heading the conspiracy against Palmer.

There obviously shadowy, powerful figures in the US who oppose Palmer or at least are disappointed that they cannot control him to they extent that they hoped.

And hell hath no fury like the President’s ex. She is evil. Maybe more evil than Nina.

That makes sense, ivylass. Maybe there really is a mole over at Fox. All I know is that for a while now, episodes have been available on the same day the show airs, but before it actually does air. Not only 24, but other network shows like Alias.

One last thing before I go:

Ok, Bob told Kate to call Terry the “tax layer” and tell him what was going on. Did anyone catch whether or not she did this? Or did she call the PI first thing? If she did call Terry, that could explain the men in black (van) kidnapping her and the PI.

About the PI’s dongle; I, too, thought that it was one of those USB storage devices. It certainly looked like one. Something about how it was played off made me think that, for the purposes of the show, the writers were intending it to be some kind of password cracker or something. If it was a storage device, then PI and Kate have some sensitive, thought-to-be-deleted info on them.
