Hey Chase, ever give yourself a stranger?
All he went through at CTU and Chase found he just couldn’t cut it.
I’m not sure how that would be believable, but I’d really rather not see good characters go bad on this show. We know Palmer (or Tony) couldn’t beat Jack.
Compared to Jack, Chase is just a hack anyways.
Jack is the Big Man at CTU, no matter how you slice it.
Chloe is a girl-nerd, (a nerdette, if you will) and in typical nerd fashion, she’s socially inept.
Remember Eddie Deezen’s character in Wargames?
Same thing.
Since this thread has been nothing but a love fest so far, I’ll be the odd man out and say I was kind of disapointed. Yeah, this episode was OK, but still too many plot holes and I kept wondering about all the dead end plot lines:
-
Palmer’s Dr. girlfriend. What was the point of that?
-
In fact, what was the whole point of the Palmer plot line anyway?
-
The baby. How the hell was that relavent?
-
The monkey on Jack’s back was cool, and could’ve been played much more into the story. Whatever happened? At least they could’ve had him shoot up at the end…
-
Bitchy Chloe. What was the point? Were we supposed to all say “Yeah, I kow someone at work like that”?
I’m sure there were others.
Still, a lot better than 99% of what else is on TV these days. Let’s just hope CTU learns a lesson and institutes a “no relatives” policy in the future…
Go back and read my post. I’m with you on this one, John.
I also thought he was going to shoot up at the end, instead of breaking down into a completely out of character cry moment.
I was actually thinking he might shoot up again, too, back in the car at the end.
They’re GAY? And that’s why they killed Sherry and Chloe? But not Dim? Why the hell NOT? And why was Jack crying? And how did he get over his addiction so fast, since they seemed to have forgotten about it by the fourth episode?
I suppose I should’ve seen more than ten episodes the past two seasons. But Dim acting like an idiot when that guy wanted to kidnap the little kid last season (I happened to just tape over that one tonight) and Mason (who was a PERFECT villain so I was pissed they were going to kill him off) walking around with a dose of radiation that was supposed to kill him within 24 hours when in real life he’d be, you know, DYING and not just a little sweaty, pissed me off so much that I decided to wait for my library to buy the DVDs.
Ya know, I just don’t get people that complain about the show, and then admit they didn’t watch it. And that’s not just directed at you, dropzone, I’ve seen plenty others. The thing about a serial show like 24 is you have to watch each show. Otherwise, yeah, it makes no sense, and you can’t open up your willing suspension of disbelief. Give it another shot.
And Mason was never a “villain.” Asshole, certainly. But not a villain.
I’ve come up with the theory that Jack was never addicted to heroin at all. Sure, he was doing it. He had to do it so he could build up a tolerance. Otherwise, he would puke if he were to shoot-up in front of the Salazars. But when the mission was over he was clear-headed. He admitted what he had done and the reasons for doing it. He hasn’t touched the stuff since. He was never addicted to the juice - he was just used to it. That scene where he was about to shoot up in the office, and the other one in his truck, those weren’t a desperate man in need of a fix. Rather, it was Jack planning ahead. He knew he would be heading down to Mexico later in the day and he may have needed to be able to handle doing a nice dose, as far as he knew. In short, Jack is the only man alive who can’t get addicted to drugs. Like he is the only man alive who has no breaking point (he’d die first - he already has!). He just looked so junkie-esque because he was trying to stay in character. He was playing a rogue agent and he needed to keep his head there. Jack refused to break character until it was necessary for the mission. Not for Chase, not for Nicole Duncan, not for anybody. He’s just that good of an undercover agent. Can’t believe you suckers were ever fooled.
Jack is in such control of his own body that he laughs in the face of heroin. What kills other men he uses as a tool at his discretion. Another man’s monkey is Jack’s Swiss Army Knife. Sure, maybe a part of him welcomed the dulling of the pain, but he was never addicted. So don’t be hatin’ . . .
