I loved it when Jack reached up and gave those scissors another slap while they were hanging out of the assassins neck.
What I want to know is…how is “mysterious computer guy” in the dark room connected to all this? Is he working in concert with Walt? Is Walt being paid by the russian terrorists (Chechens?) or is he in it for the ideology?
So far I’m very pleased with the way this season is shaping up.
That’s what I was thinking. At my job one has but to click an icon in the system tray and the computer is locked. To not do so when you leave your desk is to risk disciplinary action. One would think that’s something they’d teach you to do in Mole School.
In the “Things I’d Love to Have Seen” Department: When Diane and Audrey saw Jack through the window, I wish Jack would have just given a Forrest Gump-like wave and walked away.
Oh, and HPL, it’s Chloe, not Chole. Chole is short for cholesystechtomy, which is a removal of the gall bladder. Make of that what you will.
I got the impression that he did log off, but Chloe pulled up information about the last login session on that machine. I don’t think she saw specifically what he did – only that he had logged on to a section of the system that he shouldn’t have been cleared for. They didn’t know what he did during that logon (clearing somebody for building access) until later.
He definitely has a different management style than the other “Usurpers from Division” that we’ve seen in the past. And his is competent, so far. And very polite, while at the same time saying, “Respect mahh authoritahh!”
Actually he was looking at the video feeds tracking Jack’s movement through the building.
He never cleared the guy for access (he wasn’t on the list). He showed up in person to escort the guy through security. Of course, a secure building would still have the guy sign a log, which he didn’t.
Chloe’s lines were cracking me up. What was the exact line she said to Spenser, it was around the time she said that it wasn’t an apology just an observation. Something like,
Spenser: “Why didn’t you just instant message me?”
“Look I had something else to say to you. Let’s not make a big drama out of it or anything, ok?”
Chloe’s no Jack when it comes to interrogations. That’s for sure. I think the reverse mole actually likes her, though. She had some prime snarky lines (“Chamonille tea.” “I just did.” “How do I keep doing that?”).
Jack Bauer. Keifer’s dead. Jack Bauer killed him because no man but Jack Bauer plays Jack Bauer. The sound of the rib cracking actually came from a tape of assorted fight sounds his parents used to play for him as an infant to lull him to sleep. More fun 24 facts here.
I’ve been thinking about it and realized that last episode’s attempted assassination of Jack makes no sense. From the standpoint of the complicated evil-mastermind’s evil scheme, it would have been far, far better just to have left Jack out of it entirely.
Scenario 1: Don't frame Jack.
They steal the nerve gas. Two days later, Jack is sitting at the breakfast table reading about the wiping out of Moscow and saying to Diane, "Here, that's a hell of a thing, ain't it? Pass the marmalade."
Scenario 2: Frame Jack.
Five hours later, at least six of your agents are dead or wishing they were. And Jack is just warming up.
And from the standpoint of someone just wanting revenge on Jack or wanting him dead for security purposes.
Scenario 1: Wait for Jack to leave the boarding house. Only thing on his mind is getting a gig oiling parts on Rig number 6. Have sixteen or seventeen of the usual ubiquitous thugs blow him away.
Scenario 2: Piss Jack off. Then smuggle an assassin into CTU, at least theoretically a highly secure facility with constant camera monitoring. Also pick an assassin who has never seen a James Bond movie, so doesn't know about avoiding highly reflective surfaces when creeping up on people.
Now that I think of it, the ex-President’s assassination makes no sense either. He apparently knows all about the Evil Plot. For some reason, rather than just call CTU or even his buddies in the Secret Service, he dicks around, planting clues and calling the President’s wife. But still, there’s always the possibility that he’ll get off his ass and do something. So the Bad Guys take the time to concoct this elaborate “frame Jack Bauer” plan (which involves them knowing Jack is alive), even though this takes up valuable bomb planting/camera tampering time during which the ex-President could be burning up the phone lines.
CTU has to be the least secure building in the government. Osama bin Laden could turn up and be given a station at CTU before they realized what just happened.
I don’t think they knew where Jack was. All they knew is that he was alive. Framing him was probably to flush him out of hiding.
It could just be that he knew about Walt, and the First Lady was the only person he knew was 100% trustworthy. Also, we don’t know for sure that he knew about the nerve gas. We also don’t know for sure that Palmer was the one who put Chevensky’s name in the file.
I think Wayne is in cahoots to some extent with the Bad Guys. The baggage guy’s name was hidden even from him. Wayne didn’t know that one of the chapters to the book had been encrypted, and he was helping his brother with the book.
…we’re still in Season 4 over here in NZ, so it may be a while before we hit Season 5. But I did notice on IMDB that David Fury (ex Buffy and Angel) and Manny Coto (Enterprise, the best season) had come on board as Staff Writers. Has anyone noticed any “cliche busting” ? Does the story hold together better than Season Four?
Well, the encrypted chapter may have been a modified dupe of an existing file. Plus, It looked like the Palmers were taking notes on those “pen” and “paper” things I’ve seen in pictures. I would assume they came up with a draft, Wayne scribbles on it, and they hire some lackey to type it up. I can’t much see either of them sitting down to Appleworks and manually recording everything themselves.
At the moment, not really. It’s still fun and so far it’s not quite as outlandish (c’mon, Jack, robbing a convenience store to slow down a terrorist? How about waiting until he gets inside and letting the air out of a tire?), but unless they are somehow able to pull together some threads it’ll be moving into the “part one was a smokescreen for part two, which was a smokescreen for part three, which was a smokescreen…” territory.
