I can see having a good ol’ time calling Allstate and telling them that you want Sniper Insurance. After all, that’s what the whole hour-long commercial was about, right?
-Joe, needs snooper insurance

Pretty good stuff. My two favorite quotes have been said already (one from Jack, one from Chloe). I’m sad for Palmer and Michelle. I want Tony to survive, but that seems cruel after all he went through for Michelle.
Derek seems like a good match for Kim. Maybe they’ll end up together.
The Russian president landing was pretty intense, I kept expecting the chopper to explode.
I hope Curtis (aka Black Bauer) gets a chance to kick some ass again.
Oh yeah, and potential major plot hole I’m hoping they’ll cover…
Who else knew that Jack was alive? After all, there had to be a fifth person (presumably an evil one) to hatch the scheme. Said person had to know that Jack was alive and had to know which four other people knew about Jack.
So, is this a potential hole, or did I miss something?

I was wondering the same thing. Their main target was Palmer, but they went after Tony, Michelle and Chloe to throw suspicion on Jack. Therefore, they knew that 1) Jack was still alive and 2) those four other people knew about it.
So how did they know? Maybe that White House mole found out, or maybe Chloe talks in her sleep…
That kind of bothered me. It was like when Season 2 ended with Palmer lying on the ground after being shaking Mandy’s poison hand, and then when Season 3 started, everything was fine and dandy except for a little scar and some medication. Jack’s supposed death was the Big Thing at the end of last season, and I don’t think it lasted long enough.
Live? Hell, he’ll be up and walking around by hour 12, with just a piece of gauze taped somewhere.
Good stuff so far, can’t wait for tonight. My only question so far is why on earth would Jack trust Wayne Palmer enough to spill his whole story to him? If memory serves, Wayne is a complely dishonest turd. Mabye his brother’s death makes him a soft touch?
I think that Jack makes a great hired hand. I wonder if Ang Lee had considered him for “Brokeback Mountain”? Mending fence, killing snipers, it’s all in a day’s work for Jack.
Did anyone catch where he was hiding out? Wherever it was, it was a five minute helicopter ride from L.A. You’d think that he could have got a little farther before he went to ground.
The world ends a short distance from LA. I thought that was entirely clear from the previous four seasons of “24”.
If Jack had gone much farther he’d have fallen off of Ye Olde Earthe or been consumed by Here There Be Monstres.
Duh.
-Joe
There were shots of Derek that even made him look a lot like Kim – or at least I couldn’t help but think of her at the time. Could be just me. Will their age difference make the situation when they do meet a bit awkward? There was also something about the way Jack waxed sentimental about family that suggests we haven’t seen the last of Derek, except the previews make it look like Derek may eat the big one soon.
They present Curtis as having a major hard-on for Jack. I doubt they’ll be teaming up in the first half of the series. More likely Tony will tumble off the gurney, shake himself off, ask for a bandaid and be catching the next chopper to the airport.
How soon before Audrey and Jack get to renew acquaintances? Will Jack show her some new torture tricks he’s been practicing?
Does Derek’s mom have a chance against Audrey?
The First Lady is going to piss in the Prez’s soup, I wager. I want something vile to happen to that wimp Nixon-looking dweeb. Vile, I say.
Would David Palmer have told Wayne that Jack was alive?
Not really.
They have him on a “Verified” live security feed.
Why wouldn’t they believe it?
Oooh, I want bad things to happen to President Logan. I almost expected him to throw himself on the ground and have a Grade-A tantrum when advised to postpone the summit. Buchanan seemed to very quickly dismiss the possibility of an attack on the Russian president’s helicopter, but as that was pretty much the correct call, I’m not going to dwell on it so much.
I really liked the set-up of revealing Palmer’s call to the President’s wife. Very nice counterpoint between her maintaining, “He said it was a matter of national security” and then Palmer’s voice saying, “It’s hardly a matter of national security.” Well done.
Derek was starting to annoy me. Like after all you’ve seen Jack do over the last hour or so, do you really think he needs you to warn him? I’d be more on the side of trusting Jack to do what was right or necessary. At the moment, Derek being a hostage strikes me as unnecessary peril.
Good to see Tony’s Cubs mug back; not so good to see Michelle get blown up.
The title card at the beginning of the episode with Jack/Frank at the oil field said Mojave, Calif, which is in the desert north of LA, on the other side of the mountains. Clueless Mom must be one hell of a driver, because Mapquest says it is a 1 hr. 56 min. drive from Mojave to Ontario. Its an easier flight by helicoptor because you don’t have to take a roundabout way around the mountains, but I’m sure a real flight would take longer than it took Jack.
Well, with the atrocious management and constant turn-over it’s no real shock.
lol… that’s pretty good, thanks for the link.
Holy hell I had forgetton how obnoxious the computer stuff was on this show. Chloe’s remote socket insta-3D map of the building? Almost as bad as a couple seasons ago when they mentioned an IP address with a 300-something number in it.
Ok, brain off. Time to enjoy the explosions.
John Beard is the Fox affiliate’s news guy for LA.
However, being from not-LA, he’ll always be an Arrested Development character to me. I cracked up every time I saw him.
As far as President Keeler, on the S4 DVDs, the producers said they wanted to kill him off, but the network got cold feet, hence him just taking a nap last year. I would assume he wouldn’t show up.
Hehe, they did it again this season. When Jack was on Palmer’s computer and he gave Chloe the IP address. It started with 292. They could have gone realistic by just having the computer on a wireless local network using 192.168.0.5 or something.
I have to say, I was impressed with what was on the iMac’s screen. Looks like they just pointed a camera at the real thing.
FWIW, the first digit of the IP number on Palmer’s computer tonight was 292.
