If they gave a legit IP address, it would be hit like a pinata full of crack.
Some quick observations:
-
Jack Baur is now, without doubt, the baddest bad ass on the planet - maybe the entire galaxy. There should be a new branch of the military: Army, Navy, Airforce…Baur.
-
Palmer knows something vital to national security and he doesn’t plan to tell anybody until the day the shit is going down? And his only access to the adminstration is the First Lady? Why not call Mike?
-
I loved that Jack was able to walk out of Palmer’s suite because every single agent was looking at his picture instead.
-
Security Clearance procedures in the 24 universe suck. Still, I hope Presidential Traitor Guy puts the smackdown on Logan before they off him.
-
Jean Smart is a very good actress.
-
Chloe gets some! Woo-Hoo! Now, if she just gets in on with Kim in hour seven, I can die happy. (And she does have a nice ass!)
If CTU really thinks Jack has gone bad, I’m surprised they didn’t all quit and go home. Aside from Black Bauer, Jack’s the only competent agent they’ve got.
Funny sidenote: earlier in the day, I was reading about “women in refrigerator syndrome,” and then in the first minutes of 24, they put Michelle in the fridge. Heh.
If they knew what he’s done, they wouldn’t have chased him. They’d have just stood there and shit themselves as he walked down the hall.
What about Palmer’s brother? Could he have known? And could he be a bad guy. Because the Assassin would have had to know that Palmer was going to be in the brother’s apartment at just that time and would have known which window across the way to be shooting from. . . .
Could also explain why the clue name was encrypted in Palmer’s memoir. . . to keep the brother from knowing that Palmer knew. And that could be the way Palmer knew about the name (overheard brother talking to some other bad guy?)
lol 292… I thought I heard 192. Looks like the show is back in all its glory!
Eh, mon. We’re taking over dis radio station. Change your format to reggae, or we kill everyone!
I think that’s because they had mapped out the first half of the season in advance, but after that, the writers are making it up as they go along. It’s noticeable in the second half of the season especially when they leave some plot threads behind, like… what the hell ever happened to Behrooz?
I think the deleted scenes on the season 4 box set show Behrooz being brought back into CTU after having been captured by Marwan.
What gets me about 24 is that everyone is so damn * efficient *. They’ve all read the “10 Habits of Highly Effective Terrorists”. Five minutes after Jack has talked to Chloe, he has his emergency case of spy goodies (day laborers can afford smoke bombs?) and he’s hotwiring a helicopter.
In fact, Jack’s morning looks something like this:
7:00 Turned down for day labor
7:10 Leisurely brekkie with the family (who apparently live RIGHT NEXT DOOR to the oil field)
7:20 Helicopter to LA
7:40 Gunfight, torture, kidnapping
8:00 Assault on and impersonating FBI agent, breaking and entering (looking remarkably washed and showered for someone who's just been in a gunfight).
8:20 Crime scene investigation, clue snatched from computer
8:30 Assault on a couple more FBI agents.
8:40 Hotwire car
8:55 Assault guy in airport.
That’s one busy morning. Most of us haven’t even finished our first cup of coffee by the time Jack has emptied his third clip of the day into some thug.
As usual, the computer stuff makes my head hurt. The FBI has transponders on their agents so they can be tracked at a crime scene? Every random building has readily accessible on-line blueprintes? A computer system is so secure that a person can only be logged into it once, yet Edgar is giving out Chloe’s password like Halloween candy?
And doesn’t CTU have * any * hiring standards whatsoever? Are they an Equal Opportunity Employer for double agents?
There’s also the distinct possibility (I’d even rate it as a probability) that they wait on the second half of the series writing until they have had a chance to read some blogs and message boards and whatever critics actually express dismay over how dumb some of the characters or plot lines have been so far. It’s just hard to imagine how they adjust so rapidly to the negative reactions if it’s just a bunch of writers closed off to themselves.
The just have to be reading at least Dave Barry!
Are you kidding? It took everything Jack had not to yell “JUST DO IT NOW!”
But here there BE Monstres! (Or, at least, there be Monstre…)
Of course, this is the same CTU that experienced a “verified” authentic recording found in Syed Ali’s apartment, implicating “three Middle Eastern countries”, which had been faked.
I think they all believed him alive at that point, and I don’t have a problem with that – but I also don’t think that ALL of them immediately bought into Jack being the guilty party. Specifically, Audrey argued against this, but Bill’s calling the shots at CTU, so when she reported that Jack was the suspect (to Prez. Logan), she was just doing what Bill told her to do – make the report. I didn’t think Audrey really believed that Jack was the assassin.
Hey, at least they had to get her in the parking garage of the building, within range of the wireless access point. Last season, she would have just logged on using her cell phone, somehow acquiring a high-speed wireless signal, from the oil refinery in the middle of nowhere.
Hey, somebody’s launching a Denial of Service attack against us! I hate those script kiddies…! Oh wait. It’s those rat-bastards over at “24” again!
Oh, and great acting on the part of the First Lady – Jean Smart already doing a wonderful job portraying her.
How lucky is Derek going to feel if he gets out of this? “Holy crap- I watched this guy kill 12 people today, and I called him a liar and drank OJ out of the carton right in front of him!”
Oh, I’m sure of that. There was a writeup in my TV section in the paper this week, and a quote from Kiefer (who is also a producer of the show), which said:
Now that I think about it, I’m wondering if this is why Driscoll pretty much disappeared in the second half of the season (last year) – and we had Tony and Michelle for the rest of it. Fans didn’t like Driscoll, but did like Tony and Michelle. I remember at the start of last year hearing that Tony and Michelle would be IN it, but all the news beforehand made it sound like they wouldn’t be around for that many episodes – instead, once Tony appeared, he was back in the thick of it until the end.
Well, 2 hours into the day, and we already have our first “teenager-does-something-stupid” moment! Not that it was unexpected–I’ve learned by now that every time we have a young character, he/she will inevitably inject themselves into a life-threatening situation.
Still, great start to the season. I can’t wait to find out how the leader of the terrorists (OMG was that Nick Knight?) found out Jack was still alive.
Or…did he not know, and was he trying to create the diversion by pinning Palmer’s assassination on someone everyone thinks is dead, confusing CTU long enough to put his plan in motion?
I agree that there’s something very fishy about Spencer, and I think Edgar will uncover it in the next few hours. Speaking of Edgar, how many people think that this season will be his turn to shoot someone?
I’d vote for that. Especially if they can get a cameo appearance out of Vincent Pastore to play the guy that Edgar gets to shoot. Or even better, Pastore and the Matthew Bevalaqua kid.
Don’t forget that these guys are the Masters of Misdirection. Reza, anyone?
Yes, I suspect that it’s akin to having DEATH walk into the room. The human brain isn’t equipped to deal with it, and as such, doesn’t even comprhend it’s standing there.

“Who are you?!”
JACK BAUER.
“Crap! I thought you didn’t show up to torture nobodies like me…”
I TURN UP TO TORTURE EVERYONE.
“So now what?”
TELL ME WHAT I WANT TO KNOW, AND IT WILL HURT LESS.
Well, to be fair, last season we also saw Iowa, which in the 24 universe is apparently infested with terrorists and covered with mountains.
