Well, I certainly hope they explain how the nerve gas got there in later episodes. Best I can tell, it must have been placed there in a concrete vault, then the hanger/warehouse building was built over it with no apparently way to get at it other than to jackhammer through the floor, and then for further safe keeping, the case is locked by a key card. Ooookkkaaayy
As for the cop, I’m pretty sure the guy who escorted Clueless Mom & Derek away was not the cop with the cell phone. I think if we were supposed to catch that he somehow infiltrated the ranks of the CTU stormtroopers we would have gotten another hint. My my my, how 24 has taught us well to be suspicious of everyone, surely he’ll quietly escort them back to the safe confines of CTU: Los Angeles where they’ll remain safe for the remaining 20 hours of the day, watching events play out on their cool-ass plasma screens.
In addition to wondering about the yellow tie guy, shouldn’t Jack have perhaps wondered HOW THE TERRORISTS KNEW HE WAS THERE, KNEW HIS NAME, AND KNEW HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH DEREK???
Or does he keep that secret so he has the opportunity to shoot someone in the thigh later?
Well, they were broadcasting on the internet…yeah, that’s it…as a cover for melting down all the nuclear power plants in the US, which in turn is just a cover for shooting down Air Force One, which is a cover for…
All I could think of when the terminal at Ontario was hijacked was “All those people who had Southwest flights are going to be pissed.” Some schmoe is just off to go fly to Phoenix and he ends up part of an international terrorist plot.
The automatic assumption was probably “mole in CTU,” which is such a commonplace thing that it doesn’t even bear mentioning.
As far as Derek is concerned, the main terrorist fella said that he knew Derek was special to Jack because he went to such lengths to prevent his execution, including giving himself up immediately – so Jack knows that he didn’t have any specifics about who Derek is or what his relationship to Jack is.
One thing… in the first episode, I seem to remember the not-specifically-Chechen-but-wink-wink terrorists saying that they were “an hour from launch.”
At the time, I figured that a missile launch was too prosaic, and figured they were being clever about a product launch. (Eeeevil software that’s not-exactly-as-advertised and will wreck the economy causing MILLIONS OF PEOPLE TO DIE or something.) Then the hostage thing happened and I was bummed that they used the word “launch” in a way that it ordinarily wouldn’t be applied at all.
Now that the biological whatever-they-ares have been revealed, I’m wondering… …did I mishear the “time to launch?”
Small, relatively powerful VHF/UHF video transmitters aren’t that hard to come by. They would just have to hook one up to the video camera and take it to air live on an open channel, or better yet overriding a weak signal.
Of course, unlicensed use of such devices runs the risk of pissing off the FCC, but these are Very Bad Men.
THAT would be a ridiculously implausible plan, making the tightly-plotted season 4 seem ridiculous. Marwan’s plan was melting down all the nuclear power plants in the US, which wasn’t a cover for anything. His BACKUP plan was shooting down Air Force One.
Yes, as others mentioned Walt was around last year. The discussion’s of Jack’s fate between Mike Novick, the President and Walt, that ultimately led to Mike phoning Palmer to warn him that Jack was jeopardy had a definite feeling of King Henry II with Thomas a Becket “Will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest?”
Jack could do a Yojimbo/Fistfull of Dollars thing with the two factions…“Yellow Tie said that you…you know, with other guys. But I told him he was full of it.”
Quick question. If I remember correctly, the current president, who looks like Nixon, took over after the plane crash in the last season and the president at the time was incapacitated. Did we ever establish that that president died as a result of the crash? Was that ever concretely mentioned?
I figure he had plenty of time to take a squirt at the abandoned refinery, after killing Sunglasses Guy. Send Chloe and Derek to get the white van, and he had time to take a quick break behind the storage tanks…
