Nope – it was something like “just under an hour”. Pretty sure they were just referring to the “launching” of their part of the operation, the attack on the airport.
Now, that would be rather interesting – especially if one group knew about the other’s plans, and was taking advantage of it to obscure and distract from their own operation.
Buchanon is great! He’s sure to tell you that you did wrong, but forgive you 5 seconds later. It’s like he’s saying “What the Hell, I’ve watched this show before, I know you are one of the good guys”. Imagine Chloe being able to work 10 seconds after being carted in last season!
Btw, how many times does Jack have to say “Flank 2” before either the terrorists or CTU get the message? I mean, I half expected him to say “Screw it, I’ll do it myself” and take them all out with his bare hands.
“Remember, Curtis… I’m in a FLANK TWO position… FLANK TWO… got that? You know, the secret code we worked out? a FLANK TWO… aw, fuck it, just tell the President to tear up the treaty, for Pete’s sake…”
<Phone rings>
“Hello?”
“Sergei, it’s me. I have to get the access card from you this afternoon.”
“Excellent! Tell you what… We’ll storm the airport, take a bunch of hostages. You be there, and join in with the hostages. I will sneakily slide you the key card when everyone has their head down. Now, we might have to blow everyone up, but if we don’t, then I’m guess there will be a lot of stuff going on, and you can sneak away.”
“Well, yeah, we could do that… But I was thinking I could meet you in front of Starbucks at 2… We could have an espresso.”
Helpful terrorist tip: If you hand a phone to a federal agent and tell him to say exactly what you tell him, but he goes off with some strange stuff about a Flank 2 position or the birds have roosted in the henhouse or some other gibberish, just shoot him. Really, it’s going to be trouble otherwise.
I’m going to put some thought into this - probably more than the writers did…
Yellow Tie was supposed to go to the airport and pick up the card from cyanide mouth. However, he couldn’t find cyanide mouth because Jack had killed him. While everyone was distracted by the Hostage Situation it would be much easier for Yellow Tie and Disposable Terrorist Group #2 to grab the nerve gas and do whatever they’re going to do.
However, because of Bauer Power they weren’t able to do this. Instead, they couldn’t play their hand until they managed to find Cyanide Mouth’s body and his keycard.
Of course, that means that the window for Yellow Tie to pick up the card from Cyanide Mouth was approximately the time between Jack showing up at the airport and the moment Disposable Terrorist Group #1 set off their bomb outside the terminal.
However, since DTG1 and DTG2 aren’t working together I can see little flaws in their coordination.
Yeah, considering how thorough Disposable Terrorist Group #1’s Bald Leader seemed to be, I was kind of surprised by this one, too.
Still, sometimes Jack needs to out-think rather than out-necksnap the enemy. I guess this was all they could come up with in this situation.
Probably should have posted this after the first episode, but I am confused here. This dastardly plot was foiled because Palmer had Chevensky’s name encrypted in his memoirs. Let’s think about this. You’re a former President, writing your memoirs. Do you write about:
An assassination attempt from someone infiltrating CTU because of your involvement in a mission in Kosovo,
A nuclear weapon set off on US soil, followed by a nearly successful assassination attempt,
A miraculous recovery, a bioterrorist plot and the death of your wife,
Assisting the acting President in preventing a nuclear meltdown,
or
A baggage handler in an airport?
I truly hope that there is some explanation by the writers as to how this name mysteriously found itself in Palmer’s files, but that he could not think of anyone else to call except the First Lady. :dubious:
Another season. I suggest that it is not to late to coin the acronym WSOD for “Willing Suspension of Disbelief”.
Um… Palmer wasn’t writing about the baggage handler… ‘Cheverensky’ just appeared in the middle of the first page as a code. And who else should you call outside of the First Lady? As stated, he was frozen out of the administration, which means CTU isn’t going to listen to him either, and Jack is supposed to be dead, which means he can’t get to anyone about it either.
As a code for the bad stuff. It was just inserted, as a sentance unto itself. And who knows if Novick still talks to Palmer. They don’t have the best relationship.
First: It *was * in his memoirs; Jack and Wayne compared pages printed to those in the files. I dunno, maybe it was hidden there completely out of context, but it seems strange not to just have it in a separate file. Being surrounded by Secret Service, it’s not like his laptop is a security risk by being available to the general public. Although I guess that would support the speculation that his brother is involved and Palmer was hiding it from him. :dubious:
Second: I can’t believe that Palmer is persona non grata in Washington just because President Hissyfit got his knickers in a twist. The first three seasons set Palmer up as a decisive President with access to intelligence agencies, and the fourth season brought him back from retirement because of that. Any former President would get a listen out of mere courtesy, but Palmer is presented as especially credible.
Third: In this post 9/11 climate, anyone (President or not) who could produce a name and a date for a possible terrorist attack on US soil, especially at an airport would get listened to.
As I said, I hope the writers provide some explanation as to how this name ended up with Palmer.
2-4-5 Trioxin, to be precise This should line things up nicely for Tony to confront a very hungry Michelle in the last hours of the day. (Just kidding, I think)
Also, I’ve got the same model phone as Jack, and I don’t have submenu option three (Blow up terrorists remotely). For that matter, I can’t reboot my phone without dropping calls in progress. Probably need to update the software…
I wonder if anybody’s thought of calling Kim to let her know Jack’s alive and on national newscasts?
Oh, you mean Wormtongue? I’m sure he’ll come up with something devilish.
Yes, it was most definately stashed in the document totally out of context. Just a few words stuck in between sentances. Doesn’t make it a whole lot more solid from a plot standpoint, but I think we’re simply supposed to assume that it was stuck there for one of two reasons: 1) He was hiding it is a place no one is likely to look and suspects there’s someone he can’t trust in his midst. 2) He just got the info while the file was open and used the document as a handy note-taking device shortly before the assassination. It was the file currently open on his PC when Jack got there afterall.
I’m leaning towards option #2 as most plausible.
As for why he called FLOTUS instead of someone else…well, he and her seem to have had a more significant relationship than we know as of yet. He must have trusted her. Second, however he got the info on the Cheverosky guy he may have also gotten info that someone in the Oval Office was a mole. Therefore calling Pres. Wussy VonTwitchyface or Novick could be undermined or compromised.
You Chloe fans are a sick, twisted lot. I’m dying for the scene this season when she explodes into little bity pieces. As for Pres. WigglyTongue, I really want to see Jack-O torture the crap out of him. Maybe that sick swallow the knotted cloth torture from Season 4.
