24: Season 6: Episode 12 (5:00pm - 6:00pm)

I guess they haven’t put him in the 24 credits on IMDB yet.

BTW, the 24-verse White House is now being taken over by body-snatching aliens or something. The gal who is Vice President Squarejaw’s assistant… she was Mariel on last year’s “Invasion”.

That woman is played by Kari Matchett.

Why are you calling Vice-President Crater-Face, “Square Jaw”? The mistake Jack made by not making the call while he was still next to the Russian big-wig was the exact same mistake the other Russian dude made at the end of the show. Why didn’t he just call CTU right after Jack told him? From right there next to Jack? Now he’s got some very quiet lead-in-the-head.

Also is there any reason to be sure that Curtis is definitely dead? I must have missed the confirmation.

And one more thing: y’all must have known that the “doe-eyed Terrorist” (Bashir) had to die. It’s like, one of the cardinal rules of screenwriting or something. If you were a VeryBadMan in the past but have come around and “seen the light”, you still must die to atone for your sins.

Yeah, I was thinking that President Logan must have a pretty big target on his head for the same reason. He’s going to ‘redeem’ himself, then die selflessly for his country. Jack’ll probably have to kill him as part of a deal with the Russians or something.

Who also played the bi-sexual Beth on Wonderfalls.

He’s listed as dead on the web site, along with just about everyone else.

Well, he kind of has a big square face. And I flashed back on an MST3K episode where the bots kept making up new nicknames for the lead, along the lines of “Biff Squarejaw” and the like.

Good point.
“Ooooh, I’d better go off to some secluded room to make the call, so that somebody can shoot me and my body won’t be found for an hour…”

Sure – I was just hoping he’d last longer into the season.

(Plus, I wanted to see William Sadler show up and give him a final assignment for Section 31… ;))

Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing.

Except I was thinking it about Tom Larry Biscuit Lennox.

Perhaps he didn’t want any witnesses.

And why not check his cell phone, download all the calls to his trusty thing-a-ma-jig that does something important, then hit “redial” to the last call.

I have two complaints about this show, both of which manifested themselves in last night’s episode.

Uhh, I mean Monday’s episode. God bless my DVR.

First: Twice now Jack has infiltrated a foreign consulate illegally. He did so because he had intel that nationals of that country were behind recent terrorist attacks within the United States.

So why is it that the president, regardless of whomever he is, goes all weak-kneed when dealing with the head of state of said country? Now, I’m a good little liberal who is as deeply cynical about the usefulness of force as anyone, but even I would have no problems with siccing a shitload of Marines onto either the Chinese consulate (from season 4) or the Russian one from this year, given what has happened.

Second: Why can’t this show afford more phone lines?

Two episodes ago, Jack’s dad disappeared but told him to call 310-597-3781 (which turned out to be Charles Logan). Last episode, it was Chloe’s cell phone. This episode, it was the main number for CTU. Doing some research, I see that it has been used as far back as season 4.

I know it’s cute that they set it up to ring to an actual phone on the 24 set, but jeez, couldn’t they come up with, you know, one or two more lines?

You’re paying too close attention to the numbers, Airblairxxx.

Having ditched 24 on Monday nights for Heroes the past few weeks, I’ve now caught up. Watching 24 now has become just something I do, not necessarily because I like doing it though. I keep waiting for some big payoff. Ah well, there’s always Dave Barry’s blog to make the show more enjoyable, even if I come to the party late / after it’s over.

Lastly, Jack needs to up the violence quotient. Would have preferred Jack taking on the whole embassy - then I care less about the story. The season started so well, with Count Jackula, but it has backslid.

This seems a bit unfair. When shows use 555 numbers, everyone complains. When shows use real phone numbers that might belong to random civilians, everyone complains. And when shows use real phone numbers that they know are safe, and which in fact have a nice payoff if you call them, you complain.

And that stretched my suspension of disbelief 24-wise just about to the breaking point. For the first time in 6 seasons, I find myself questioning my loyalty toward the show. I mean, there are so many plausible opportunities for trouble; why manufacture a perilous situation in such a sloppy, stupid way?

I hope this particular situation resolves quickly, because right at this moment I am precariously close to giving up on the show.

And I really don’t want to. :frowning:

Well, we’re maye getting back there. This past episode, IMHO, was better than that of previous weeks. It started feeling more like 24 again, with Jack going a little rogue, heading back into the embassy without authorization, especially when violating the sovereignty of an embassy landed him in Chinese prison for a year and a half already… AND making good on his threat to remove a finger!

It hasn’t been feeling as 24-ish lately in this season – but this episode got back to basics. I enjoyed this one.

I think one thing they could do is also get back to the more tense show endings. There were some real grab-you-by-the-seat-of-pants moments when the clock ticked the end of the hour, back in the first few seasons. This season has felt more like season 4 with the episode endings – each hour wrapping up a little subplot, and not really leaving me with as much of a “NOOOOO!! It can’t end THERE!!” feeling.

As an aside, one of the best 24 episode endings… Season 2, episode 8. Jack and captive Nina in the plane, flying back to L.A. (a short trip). Calm dramatic moment with Jack telling Nina just what she’d taken away from him in killing Terri. Then… well, I’m sure those of you who’ve seen season 2 remember how that one ended. (I leaped out of my seat).

The writers need to bring back the tension and excitement in episode endings – not every one, necessarily – but like they did back in the first seasons.

Not reading anything, y’all. Just poking my head in to say “Hi!”

I used to have running thing with some of my friends during the first few seasons of 24. Each episode always ended with one of us screaming “Oh, shit, OH SHIT!” or “WTF!”. There WAS no other ending. I agree, let’s bring that back, or millions will die!
