What’s “the Silent Countdown?”
One without sound.
That’s exactly what I kept yelling at the TV at the time. But SuburbanMom wouldn’t listen to me. The bitch…
Well, technically it’s not really a countdown.
featherlou, it’s when they end the episode (or cut to commercial) with the clock ticking only visibly – without the usual “chick-TOCK chick-TOCK chick-TOCK”. The Silent Clock. Done infrequently, for deep meaningful moments like when George Mason gave up the reins at CTU, realizing his radiation poisoning was now affecting his performance (and he knew he would be dead by the end of the day).
Something I haven’t seen mentioned yet…Milo was actually in the first season of 24. After Jamie was killed by Nina he took over for her.
So, he’s actually been around longer than anyone but Jack…!
Yep, he was at CTU back then. I see from his character profile page on the Fox site, they have the “inbetween” time for his character explained by having him work at CTU Denver inbetween his CTU L.A. stints.
Probably wishes he stayed at Denver right about now. Working at CTU in the proximity of Jack Bauer isn’t the best choice of retirement plan.
Another little moment that just occurred to me: remember when President Palmer gives the go ahead to release all the terrorists, and afterward he’s sitting alone with Lennox and says to him something like “I know you disagree with me, which is why your loyalty is all the more appreciated” then they cut to a brief reaction shot of Lennox?
Yeah, Lennox is totally going to betray him.
Jeez, can’t the guy ever get out of character?
So how much damage can Jack take in the course of 24 hours?
The way I read that reaction shot was that it was mostly about the recent call from Palmer’s sister that Lennox conveniently didn’t tell Wayne about. “No, the president is not available. But I’ll pass along your message Sandra…” click “NOT.”
And maybe about how Tom has already been going behind the Prez’s back and against his decision in preparing the whole “detention centers for Muslims” thing.
They never do.
Ah, I kept thinking you guys were talking about a countdown for a bomb. That makes more sense now.
Ah-the ol’ Mistake of the Unmotivated Closeup (c.f. Roger Ebert)…
THERE’S NO TIME!
Drunk Jack, though? Pretty scary.
Light the action figure, or millions of people will DIE!
Sorry, someone had to say it.
Nitpick
Not a big deal but, I did verbalize while watching, when CTU wanted to get satellite coverage of the warehouse the nuke was being armed at, they couldn’t because there was too big a demand on the satellites because of all the use and they couldn’t reposition them fast enough. So what the hell happened to the private satellite Morris just hi-jacked two hrs ago to track Jack when he was given up to Fyed? Not that it would have really helped in the end anyway, but jeeez.
Maybe because the bad guys were still keeping their eye on it. CTU removed Fayed’s access to all their own monitoring stuff, but they had no control over that one, so Fayed’s people might have been able to see that that one satellite was repositioning.
I’m looking forward to the first “field interrogation” that Jack will engage in.
There is a bar near where I live called the Dresden (it was actually in the movie Swingers. The first time I went there about a year ago, having just moved into the area, I was at happy hour but the place was empty. So I am small talking with the bartender and I ask something like, “Anybody well known ever come in?” He says, “Yeah, that guy from that show about terrorists, Keth something.” “Keifer Sutherland?” “Yeah that guy.”
Ever since than I have been hoping and praying I see him there, preferably in a drunken Jack Bauer-esque stupor.
Here’s another nitpick, pointed out on TWOP. When Bill and Curtis deliver Jack to Fayed, he tells them to handcuff Jack to the grate, which they do. A little while later, Fayed and his flunkies pull up, uncuff him, knock him out, and throw him into the back of their van.
Where did they get the key for the handcuffs?
I don’t think handcuff keys vary all that much. It’s not like they have deadbolts in them.
