Very true. When I mailed my book, I asked the PO staff person to recommend an appropriate sized envelope. He weighed the book and asked if I was going to include a card or note in the package. He said that if I did, I couldn’t mail using “media rate.” For a single paperback book, sending first class wasn’t onerous, but for several pounds of books, media rate would definitely be the way to go.
(Don’t tell anybody but there was a little post-it note inside the book I sent.)
Apologies but I won’t be sending out mine til tomorrow. Had to move one of the Babybrarians into her college dorm this week. Can I have some of the kitten’s pain medication too?
Also, I’m mailing media rate, so most likely there won’t be an enclosure. I’ll put my Doper name on the outside of the envelope and try to send a postcard separately.
I sent out six books the other day. A pile of pretty good historical romances but I forgot any card. Sorry but the girls were about to destroy the post office and I had to get out of there as fast as possible.
I like piña coladas and getting caught in the ra… Sorry
OK, I like books about history (for instance military history), real crime, and generally things that are based on the real world. I am very fond of scientific divulgation.
As an example of what I have been reading these days:
“The Smartest Guys in the Room” (about the Enron collapse).
“The tiger that isn’t” (about understanding statistics, correct interpretation of the data we are bombarded with everyday, and learning to know and avoid fallacies when dealing with data and numbers).
“De Madrid al Infierno” (the darker aspects of the history of the capital of Spain).
And so on and so forth But, really – I am a voracious reader, and I will read almost everything
So… I read about your preferences, and I think I found something that you might like
So, Pai I am really hoping you enjoy (or at least don’t hate) the book I sent you.
It’s one of my favorites, and I guess it’s British Mystery in that it takes place in London and it involves a series of murders based in-and-around the discovery of DNA (Watson and Crick and all that)
It’s probably categorized more under “historical fiction”, but it’s the best I could find under the circumstances
No worries. I’m sure it’ll come.
Just lemme know when you’ve sent it because checking the mailbox is a bitch and I don’t wanna do it if I don’t have to
I received a box full of books yesterday and I think they came from LavenderBlue! Thank you!! I dived immediately into Mark Kurlansky’s The Big Oyster. What a treat! The rest will make great Fall/Winter reading. Thanks again!!
