I am actually largely in agreement with your main point here, but you originally said the opposite of the above quote. You said the media was “just as culpable.” That literally means equally culpable. It is false equivalence and it perpetuates the very thing you are arguing against. If you had the said the media were “somewhat” responsible because they coddled Trump and his enablers, I’d be right there with you. The difference between what you said before and what you’re saying now is not pedantic; it’s the kind of equivalence the right uses all the time to downplay their extremism. The media does it all the time, too, ironically.
