6 January 2021; A Day worth a Thread

I don’t follow anyone on Twitter that I don’t trust to some extent. I’m sorry - I wasn’t personally in the room to directly report back a first-hand account of what was said. I rely on this little-known group known as “journalists” who go out, gather information, and report it back to me on a variety of media platforms so that I can easily consume it. Mea culpa, right?

I’m really not so sure on this. He would do a certain amount of damage over the next 12 – 13 days if he stays in office but I suspect not a great deal. I think his more violent supporters have had their tantrum today and caught security forces on the hop slightly but I don’t think it will happen again.

If the 25th is used on him, a large chunk of the population are going to see it as a “coup”. The only circumstance which they would ever accept the 25th being used on their guy would be if he was shown on live TV drooling and babbling, and even then they would probably come up with some conspiracy about how he had been drugged. Bear in mind that the last time Trump was seen in public was in one of his tweets in which – while he may have been lying vociferously – he appeared basically sane and sober.

Don’t forget that an amazing proportion of Republican supporters believe that the election result was rigged to a greater or lesser degree. It’s not just the extremist MAGA’s. And if one has that belief, then the whole situation looks very different.

The US body politic has enough rips and tears in it at the moment that it may well not survive. Adding another, in the form of invocation of the 25th Amendment, in my view probably just makes the position worse.

Even Lindsey Graham is standing up and saying the claims of election fraud are bullshit… talk about rats leaving a sinking ship.

(there are two more tweets in the thread)

George Will is right up there with Senator Cruz. He bends whichever way the conservative wind is blowing.

He sold his credibility long ago.

Here that loud “pop” sound? That’s Lindsay Graham disconnecting his lips from Trump’s ass after four years.

Trump has no authority over the Capitol Police. They’re overseen and administered by Congress.

In a series of tweets Wednesday evening, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called the storming of the U.S. Capitol “unacceptable.”

“Lawlessness and rioting – here or around the world – is always unacceptable,” the nation’s top diplomat wrote.

“Let us swiftly bring justice to the criminals who engaged in this rioting,” Pompeo wrote, adding “America is better than what we saw today.”

Most of the pontificating is senators lambasting the rioters, right? I have no problems with this.

Is it okay to tell Lindsey Graham he can go fuck himself in this forum?

If not, I’ll accept whatever happens. Because I’m a freaking adult.

voting right now

And now the vote…and a roll call.

Stating the obvious is narcissism at this point. Priorities. So many furrowed brows.

Eh, I’ll still occasionally read his column in the WaPo if it’s about baseball.

Wow, Lindsey Graham has pulled his tongue off Trump’s…boots and is speaking a forceful “Stop this futile crusade”. I did not expect such plain speaking from him.

I thought that surgical intervention would be needed for that.

Will left the republicans in 2016 because of Trump. He was very critical of Trump from the beginning. I’m not exactly a fan of the man, but it’s really not accurate to liken him to Cruz. Will got off the train before it truly started to roll. Cruz OTOH is the engineer(now there’s a scary thought)

Did anyone hear Cruz’s vote?
(on objecting to Arizona’s electoral votes)

Eh, he’s been pretty thoroughly and vocally anti-Trump since before he was elected. I’m not going to put him up as a profile in courage, but he’s been consistent.

Thanks!
