Why, you don’t mean to insinuate that the Trump supporters so famed for devotion to law and order would try to interfere with letting the law take its course following a valid indictment, do you? That would be quite shocking.
It was Willard in Apocalypse Now who said, “In the Trump administration the bullshit piled up so high you needed wings to stay above it”
I know. When I started this thread about 24 hours ago, I figured we’d get a few hundred posts and be pretty much done by 8-10pm. Instead…May have to ask the mods to change the name–Maybe Certification–The Odyssey.
Irrelevant. There will be consequences for whatever you do, just hope you are prepared for them.
Me too. When I originally saw the thread it had 600 replies and I thought “oh there’s no way I’ll get through that” but then I slogged through it all and if I look away for 10 minutes there’s another 50 replies. If I go to bed, it’ll be up to 2000 by tomorrow.
This is wrong. (I was looking at the 2021 Senate calendar)
Since the Senate was in session on November 9, Mr. Miller would have been appointed as acting SecDef under the Vacancies Reform Act of 1998. 5 U.S. Code § 3345
“If an officer of an Executive agency (including the Executive Office of the President, and other than the Government Accountability Office) whose appointment to office is required to be made by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, dies, resigns, or is otherwise unable to perform the functions and duties of the office— […] the President (and only the President) may direct a person who serves in an office for which appointment is required to be made by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to perform the functions and duties of the vacant office temporarily in an acting capacity subject to the time limitations of section 3346; […]”

The only thing I’m NOT prepared for is the next, smarter demagogue-dictator, IF they see an unpunished Trump as a model for action.
DC’s police chief said three people have died from medical complications during the riot.
No not at all, as today and the last 5 years have shown that Trump supporters respond positively to things like calls to their better nature, the sanctity of law, precedent, democratic norms, ideas like for fucks sale don’t attack your own House of Parliament
House finally finishes vote on AZ. 303 to 121 votes rejecting the objection (= vote to accept AZ vote for Biden)
Brian
Given today. And given how Trump supporters vote; I am curious what more you think they will do? They will vote with more fury at the poll next time? They will be sure to break more windows in the capitol next time?
Were there are a lot of Trump supporters who didn’t vote that will be sure to come out next time?
Something else? What?
Really. Earlier today just when a dozen or so protesters, at the time I called them such, had gotten past the first line of police, but were then just standing around, I went out to pick up some lunch, was going to write something about how they would get bored in a couple of hours and go home. When I got back they were in the fucking building
Had no idea there was a plot to tie up members of the House and have a show trial. I don’t know what the fuck their plan was after that except that Trump’s troops would come in to support them.
Not quite, Pence Requested that the Secy of Def give the order, who is authorized to do so.
And the house votes 303-121 against Trump. So both Houses rejected him soundly. Now onto the counting again. What’s the next state up for argument–Georgia??
You have to wonder how many new COVID positives will come out of this over the next couple of weeks-- both in the crowd or rioters and among the Senators/Reps.
Thanks Thelma Lou, always the optimist. The future of democracy is on the line and you have to bring up the China virus
I kid, I love you.
Today is the worst day in America’s history since 9/11, and this doesn’t include the 9/11-equivalent 3,541 deaths from Trump’s COVID which also occurred today.
Those 121 votes to reject Biden electors from Arizona represent a sizable majority of all House Republicans. There’s your future of the Republican Party.
I understand why that all would be really bad but with the pandemic and all I am jonesing for something to binge-watch. I woulda watched this.
