It seems that way. By my count, we’ve had three objections since the joint session reconvened, but they have not had the support from the other house. IIRC, one had support, but given the events of today, that support was withdrawn. (I could be wrong on this.)
I said earlier that the riot today may just backfire–that objections would be much more difficult to justify; therefore, we will see far fewer. Looks like that so far; let’s keep our fingers crossed that there are few to no more.
I’m not surprised that they let most of them go at the time they were inside, with law enforcement outnumbered, as a purely tactical decision. They just weren’t in control of the situation.
But what the fuck was going on with the lack of security in the first place? Was there some kind of organised pro-Trump collusion here at some level in law enforcement to allow this to happen?
I read that upthread, one guy had zipties. The speculation was that they wanted to take hostages. I don’t know where this show trial business is coming from.
