7 Jan 2021 and beyond - the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol

I get your point, but I would hope what would deter treason would be a love, or at least respect for our country, constitution, and traditions. If someone is really trying to overthrow the government, they’re presumably ready to risk their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. These guys treated it less like the Boston Tea Party and more like a Big Ten tailgate party.

Of course I would hope that everyone would love our country. But those whose love is so twisted as to attack Congress while it counts Electoral College votes because their guy seems likely to lose, after he’s plainly encouraged them to do so, should pay the price in the courts established by the very Constitution they claim to revere - as should he.

Seems likely to lose? Lets not feed their fantasies, the outcome was 100% determined. The vote was merely a formality.

I am merely trying to reflect their fantasies and motivations. Their Hero insisted he had actually been reelected, despite all indications to the contrary, and could still have a second term, if only they would go down the Mall and forcefully tell Congress that.

Does he know that he lost the election fair and square?

He does not know. Now, whether he has managed to successfully convince himself or whether from the get-go he was so focused on hearing what he wanted to hear, he is absolutely certain. Absolutely certain that he won the election and that if he did not win it, it could only be that it was stolen from him…

You cannot say anything to Trump that he doesn’t want to hear. Everybody knows that. So to do that would mark you as incompetent or a fool or a silly person. It just doesn’t happen.

Oh I remember him……Denver Riggleman of the Bigfoot porn scandal.

Which is actually somewhat relevant. Riggleman wrote a book, a hysterically funny takedown of conspiratorial thinking, centering around a vacation he took with a bunch of Bigfoot enthusiasts.

Because he made a lot of jokes about these people analyzing Bigfoot mating habits and doing stuff like imitating Bigfoot mating calls, somehow everyone started calling his book “Bigfoot Porn”………and the cover had a cartoon sketch of a Bigfoot with a box that said CENSORED over the crotch area.

I remember, when I first heard of the “Bigfoot porn” scandal, I found the book online. It was good, hysterically funny. And not porn. Totally not porn.
You can read at least part of it here.

But the point is, he’s a hardcore conspiracy theory skeptic, which has lead him to join the very small club of Republicans against January 6th.

You know, just when I think I’ve heard it all, here comes Ann Hedonia!
:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

The Post article is an interesting read. The more I read about and contemplate conspiracy ‘theorism’, it looks and feels like cultural mythology, which serves the purpose of bonding the culture together. We’ve left the world of facts behind - we’re in a post-fact world. We’re entering a world in which cultural bonds matter more than facts. There are certain signals that are used in their language (e.g., snowflake, libs, democrat party, the Squad, woke…). But beyond that - and more frightening - there’s the display of cultural virtue: group loyalty over truth and justice. We are moving into an extremely dangerous world.

I just had to google up that picture, because of course I did. Lest my efforts be wasted, here it is. His Democratic opponent in the election tried to tweet up a scandal around it. Background discussion, including the tweets and pic, here:

Follow-on cartoon commentary here:

That first one- that is one LONG censored area. I wonder if that has something to do with the rarity of Bigfoot sightings. Most of the time he’s probably lying on the ground having just tripped over something.

Cockburn and Riggleman? This Bigfoot porn writes itself.

There is a thread

“Bigfoot Porn” is good for a laugh, but the specific reason why Denver Riggleman was cast out by the GOP was because he dared to officiate a same-sex wedding. That’s what led the Virginia GOP to censure him, and subsequently he was replaced as the Republican nominee by a convention of party activists (Virginia allows the party to have either a primary or convention).

“Well, Timmy, when a male Bigfoot and another male Bigfoot love each other very much…”

Entering? We’ve always been there. It’s humanity’s default state.

…hey :face_with_raised_eyebrow: wait a minute:

Yeah… why the fuck are we picking up their tab???

A fair question.

Paywalled. What’s it say?

Unpaywalled:

Protip: for Wapo articles, you can often google the exact headline and find a similar article. I’m not sure why that tends to work, if maybe the second story is written from the content of the first.

Thanks. ‘Jethro’ commented, ‘Just wondering how much BLM is paying for the damages they caused?’

Maybe because BLM wasn’t trying to destroy the country?
