7 Jan 2021 and beyond - the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol

It’s time we just appended “terrorist supporter” any time one of them is mentioned.

It’s terrible how a group of protesters stopped lawmakers from doing their job of defending a group of protesters who stopped lawmakers from doing their job.

I heard some of that, and it was really funny listening to Greene cry about how the DOJ wouldn’t let them in the building. She sure has a head of stone and can’t take a hint.

So today 75% of the 4G caucus tried to check on the welfare of the January 6 ‘political prisoners’.

“Sorry; your cells aren’t ready yet. Come back later.”

Since these clowns are always comparing the Jan. 6 insurrection to the 2020 BLM protests … I wonder if any prominent Democratic congresspeople have championed people who were arrested for violence perpetrated during those protests. Serious question.

As you phrase your question, none that I’m aware of.

Not that I know of but there were some Republicans trying to claim VP Harris paid bail for criminals that went on to do more criminal stuff. They were lying, of course.

Gosar the Gosarian?

Ray: "Gosar the Gosarian , I order you to cease any and all supernatural activity and return forthwith to your place of origin or to the nearest convenient q-anon dimension.

Venkman: That oughta do it. Thanks very much, Ray.

More projection than a multi-plex cinema.

I was thinking more like Conan’s haberdasher cousin, Gosar the Garbarian

Very, very sad news:

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate has voted to award Medals of Honor to the Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department for protecting Congress during the Jan. 6 insurrection, sending the legislation to President Joe Biden for his signature.

Under the bill, which passed by voice vote with no objections, there will be four medals – to be displayed at the Capitol Police headquarters, the Metropolitan Police Department, the U.S. Capitol and the Smithsonian Institution.

Senate passage comes after 21 House Republicans voted against the measure in June, some of them objecting to the language in the bill that referred to a “mob of insurrectionists.” Trump, along with many Republicans still loyal to him, has downplayed the rioting and tried to rebrand it as a peaceful protest, even as law enforcement who responded that day have detailed the violence and made clear the toll it has taken on them. Four officers gave emotional testimony in Congress last week about their mental and physical injuries.

No Senate Republicans objected. The top Republican on the Senate Rules panel, Missouri Sen. Roy Blunt, said the medals recognize’ “the selflessness, the dedication, the willingness to stand in the way of danger.” Blunt said he hopes they will send “a clear message” of appreciation to the two departments.

My bold.

Okay. Wait a minute.

I thought this was basically a love-in with ordinary patriotic tourists calmly visiting the Capitol?? (Yeah, someone died, and four police have committed suicide, but those things are irrelevant, right?)

What qualifies you for the Medal of Honor?

Public Law 88–77, July 25, 1963: The requirements for the Medal of Honor were standardized among all the services, requiring that a recipient had “distinguished himself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty.”

My bold.

Risk of his [sic] life?? From what? Being smothered with flowers, hugs, kisses, and love beads by the peaceful crowd?

Something does not add up. /sarcasm

I need to correct myself. The medals being awarded are called the Congressional Gold Medal.

Still, my point stands. If this was a love-in where no lives were in danger (except the person who died) how can a medal be justified? Unless it wasn’t a love-in after all.

It was whatever they say it was today. And if they said it was something different yesterday, or if they say it was something different tomorrow, the truth is always whatever view they hold at that moment.

“A key House committee has postponed multiple scheduled witness interviews about Donald Trump’s final days in office, handing them off to the select panel investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.
“As the Oversight Committee continues its crucial oversight work, we look forward to the Select Committee fully exposing the former president’s unconstitutional attacks on our democracy and attempts to stay in power after the American people voted him out of office,” House Oversight Committee Chair Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) said in a statement to POLITICO Thursday.
An aide to the Jan. 6 panel, speaking on condition of anonymity, did not dispute the handoff and added that the select committee would announce “additional actions” later.”

"The House Oversight Committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Sources said it has canceled plans to interview former acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen and his former second-in-command, Richard Donoghue. Those interviews had been scheduled for this week and next. Instead, the select committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot will question the two men. "

First; not last:

I hope the judge imposes the maximum sentence against this guy and anyone else convicted. Treason and insurrection must be punished to the fullest extent of the law if those who would overthrow American constitutional democracy simply because they didn’t like the outcome of an election are to be deterred for next time.

OK, this name does not ring a bell with me.

"(CNN)Former Rep. Denver Riggleman is joining the staff of the House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, the third Republican that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has added to the panel that GOP leadership has attacked as a partisan endeavor.
Riggleman – a former Virginia congressman and Air Force intelligence officer who has been an outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump – will be a senior technical adviser for the committee, according to two sources familiar with the selection.
GOP Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger are the only Republican lawmakers serving on the committee, which held its first hearing late last month. But as a former member, Riggleman brings a high profile, and his national security background will add additional legitimacy to the investigation.
“I have to say, doing this might be one of the biggest things I’ve ever done in my life,” Riggleman said in a video posted to Twitter Friday night touting his intelligence and data analytics experience.
A former member of the hardline House Freedom Caucus who was first elected to the House in 2018, Riggleman lost the GOP nomination for Virginia’s 5th District – despite having the backing of Trump – in a convention last year after his decision to officiate a same-sex wedding angered some local Republicans.
“We can’t worry about the color of the jerseys anymore, or whether we have an ‘R’ or a ‘D’ next to our name. It’s time for us to look in a fact-based way at what happened on January 6,” Riggleman continued in the video, “to see if we can prevent this from ever happening again in the future.”
