You guys heard about this?
I hope the Capitol Police have enough support this time.
You guys heard about this?
I hope the Capitol Police have enough support this time.
I’m sure they won’t be stupid enough to try anything.
Of course, I thought the same thing on the 6th.
The police should paint a black line around the Capitol. Write Not Dead on one side of it.
Would it be wrong to hope the police crack down on them with tear gas, pepper spray, clubs, and shields?
Man, I’m losing all sense of what’s right and wrong. I think that changes when you’re in a fucking war. Whew
Today has me all screwed up.
The thought is nice but that won’t happen and the insurrectionists know it. They have to be gaining confidence based on the last several months. The insurrection is fading from memory, thanks in no small part to the white wash from Republicans. But the other part of it is that there are multiple crises that Biden and the Democrats are probably not capable of putting out of the public’s mind anytime soon: the pandemic’s record toll, an increasingly unforgiving climate, the border crisis, the aftermath of the withdrawal in Afghanistan, and an uneven economic recovery.
It’s not fair, it’s sad, but the truth is that coming into his term, Biden and Democrats had to be exceptional at governing – just better than okay wasnt’ going to - and won’t now - cut it. They had to, need to, put together a bold agenda and be willing to pull out all the stops. And we’re still not even sure we can get legislation passed (infrastructure) that is generally pretty popular within both parties.
Turns out McCarthy’s records are part of that subpoena…no wonder he’s posturing…
Anyone who doubts capitol security for upcoming right wing loon fests should remember that the most corrupt person ever to hold the big office is no longer there. There will be no one from the Oval Office assisting the next privilege party.
If, for whatever insane reason, security is lacking, I’ll take my lumps.
I agree with these general statements, but I’m woefully literal-minded. What EXACTLY in your opinion (or anyone’s) should the parts I have bolded look like IRL?
There isn’t an easy answer to that question. But when I really think about it, I wanted Biden and the Dems to be pragmatic with each other, at least in terms of building a party ‘tent’. I never, ever wanted Biden and Dems to be bipartisan with Republicans. He’s playing with venomous reptiles. Biden should have devoted more energy to convincing “moderates” (Democrats who are afraid of their own shadows) to see the future and build a political machine that could dominate Republicans. He should have built a coalition that would shove reconciliation and a larger stimulus down their throats. That should have been the position, and coming from Biden, that might have meant something to cowards - er, moderates like Sinema and Munchkin.
Biden needs to have balls. He needs to start defying the courts. He needs to just start using executive orders for things that he knows people want and force the courts to stop him. Bipartisanship is the opposite of that; it shows that you’re weak, that your party is took weak to govern, and that it should court members of the fucking party that tried to overturn a legitimate election.
What an im-bessel!
“QAnon Shaman” pleads guilty. Prosecutors are recommending 41-51 months of jail time, which it appears he agreed to as part of the plea. NY Times link.
Jacob Chansley, a former actor and Navy sailor widely known as the QAnon Shaman, who stormed the Capitol in January in stars-and-stripes face paint and a horned fur hat, pleaded guilty on Friday to a single felony count of obstructing an official proceeding before Congress.
Mr. Chansley, 34, became one of the best-known figures in the Capitol breach after images of him standing shirtless on the Senate floor brandishing a spear made from a flagpole shot around the globe, vividly representing the role played in the riot by adherents of QAnon, the cultlike conspiracy theory embraced by some backers of former President Donald J. Trump.
Mr. Chansley, who says he has now lost faith in Mr. Trump, remained in the spotlight even after his arrest.

Cue the Republican Sad Trombone!
Womp-womp!
Prosecutors are recommending 41-51 months of jail time…
I wonder how he’ll make out fare in prison?
He’s mostly been in quarantine because (surprise, surprise) he’s anti-vax. It did surprise me to learn that he has been judged mentally competent, though.
AP is buying into his “don’t call me the QAnon Shaman!” BS. That or they’re trolling him with the wordiest practical description of him they could think of.
I cussed them out about it on Twitter.
That guy should have begged to be called the QAnon shaman - it would have kept the papers from repeating his actual name so much

Jacob Chansley
Yup, we’re all getting really familiar with it
Won’t someone think of the gluten?
That guy is comedy gold. He shows up on the Senate floor dressed up like he’s auditioning to be the Minnesota Vikings’ mascot - good thing for him there were Packers or Bears fans around. In custody, he goes from marauder to getting his Blue Apron on, lol.
He contains multitudes. And I hope all of them are going to prison for good long time.
As mentioned above: 8 months for this douchebag…
"As he imposed the sentence, Moss said Hodgkins sent a profound and dangerous message by raising the Trump flag by the Senate dais at the hour members of Congress were supposed to be confirming President Joe Biden’s victory
“The symbolism of that act is unmistakable,” the judge said. “In that act, he captured the threat to democracy that we all witnessed that day. … People have to know that assaulting the United States Capitol and impeding the democratic process, even if you don’t come bearing arms, will have consequences.”
Judge hands down first felony sentence tied to Capitol riot - POLITICO
Just an update — this guy is regretting admitting that he did anything wrong and is trying to undo the plea deal he made.
Paul Hodgkins says his attorney misled and pressured him on his plea.
Damn, and here I thought the judge was being way too lenient with the 8 month sentence, especially after all the references to the Civil War and what Lincoln would’ve done had he not been assassinated in his documents pleading for leniency.
Note it’s also a real consequence of trying to whitewash Jan 6th.
