Toss the plea deal and give him 8 years. Problem solved.
Bolsonaro is attempting his own January 6 in Brazil tomorrow in the global right’s continuing war on democracy. Like Trump, Bolsonaro is trailing in the polls in his bid for re-election next year. Unlike Trump, he has much higher hopes of the military and police actively participating in an attempt to take power by force.
The GOP largely hasn’t disavowed the actions of January 6. Instead, they appear to be studying how it came up short and how they can get it right next time.
I had a client once who stated his intent to withdraw his plea. He backed down when the US Attorney basically said “go for it if you want, we’ll ask for 20 years next time.”
How long did he get under the plea deal?
3 1/2 - 4 years. We’ll see what the judge sets.
I was asking @Procrustus about his client’s deal.
4 years. But 20 or more was certainly possible if he withdrew his plea.
I’m watching this as well.
Hope the Feds listen to this guy:
An underwhelming turnout in support of Bolsonaro this morning but the day isn’t over and the danger to Brazilian democracy has hardly passed. He’ll only become more desperate as election day draws closer.
It seems to me that the Trump mob is trying very, very hard to start a civil war. I’m not talking about conservatives or republicans. I’m a left leaning moderate. I understand conservative ideals, and am generally conservative in my day to day life. In a make sure, don’t upset the apple cart sort of way.
But the Trump mob seems to want a real on hot war.
I’m trying to figure out what is wrong with these people.
I’m going to guess that they’re Russian operatives. Well the smart ones are, the rest are dupes. I can’t think of any other country that would benefit by the US falling into civil war. Not even China.
Like I said last year:
They may not admit that they’re wrong, but somehow the facts never seem to corroborate them. And even when they win elections, somehow they never seem to get the prosperity and success and validation that they were told would result.
They’re living in a fake reality carefully crafted for them by an unscrupulous elite that bullshits them for votes to consolidate its own hold on power and wealth for its own benefit. And they’ve figured out just enough of that to have an angry feeling that something’s wrong somewhere, but not enough to understand what’s really going on.
In full agreement with what you are saying here Kimstu but many of them also are infuriated by all the groups they see as being inferior to them being “given” the same rights as them and being “rewarded” by the libtards. They are livid to see women, people of color, gay folks, trans people, etc, etc, etc being treated as if they are equals. Many truly believe these people are clearly inferior to them. These are not hardworking, god fearing, patriotic Americans and rather are actively taking what belongs to “true” Americans. This is pretty much the lie Trump has pushed for years and it is also actively being spread by Carlson, Hannity, Alex Jones and all their ilk.
Yeah, and that’s all contributing to their “perpetual wrongness” frustration. For one thing, “those people” are somehow not manifesting the contemptibly inevitable inferiority expected of them. Some of them are getting to be President! and Vice President! And when they talk they sound smarter than Our Guys! And they have stalwart young white Marines holding umbrellas over them when they’re out in the rain like some kind of servant or something! IT’S NOT FAAAAAAIIIRRRRR
For another, they keep on voting for Their Guys spouting ever more extreme rhetoric and somehow never getting “those people” put back in their place. They’re not racist! They don’t have a racist bone in their body! They just want the comfortable reassurance of their position as the default and dominant group that they’re always being implicitly promised will be restored to them! And they keep never getting it! IT’S NOT FAAAAAAIIIRRRRR
It’s a mistake to assume that people are rational or that they see the same facts or reality that you and I do. What many of these people perceive is that their world is changing. They sense that their social, political, and economic status, relative to other groups, is changing, and they’re fighting to defend the America that they’ve always known. They reject the inevitability of a demographically changed America, and they are willing to go extremes to make their position known.
That’s bad enough, but that’s not the scary part. The scary part is what happens when we begin to experience real scarcity, instead of the relative scarcity that’s already motivating them to act with malice.
Is today the deadline for the subpoenas to be honored? Does anyone know? I have googled and googled, but I can’t find anything on it.
If you mean the ones issued by the House committee to the various telecom and other communications companies, I believe so. They’ve gotten a lot of information.
Thanks Morgyn, yes that’s what I meant. I believe I had heard that yesterday was the deadline for those companies to provide the data and I was trying to find out if they complied or if they took the threat by McCarthy to heart and decided to fight the subpoenas.
“The House select committee in charge of investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot announced late Thursday that it had received “thousands of pages of documents” in relation to the investigation.
Driving the news: On Aug. 25, the committee sent requests to federal agencies asking them to preserve records and documents that contained information related to the attack. The panel gave the agencies a Sept. 9 deadline to hand over the materials.”
It’s not a very detailed story, but here’s the link:
