7 Jan 2021 and beyond - the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol

Correction: The filing is by the National Archives about the Trump request, not by Trump himself.

Who had Washington post publishes leaked draft op-eds on their bingo card?

The Post starts the text with this:

Below is the text of a draft op-ed Greg Jacob wrote in January 2021, when he was chief counsel to Vice President Mike Pence, but ultimately decided not to publish. The Washington Post obtained a copy of the draft for this story examining Trump attorney John Eastman’s actions around the events of Jan. 6.

There’s a tiny bit of derision for the left, but overwhelmingly it’s an anti-Trump’s lawyers text, and this sentence deserves to be repeated in every proceeding against Trump’s laywers:

There is no room in the legal profession for Grima Wormtongues who counsel their clients with half-truths and deceptive presentations made in pursuit of a personal agenda. There certainly is no room in the Oval Office.

I just wanted to drop this link here, the Washington Post has published an incredibly detailed BEFORE / DURING / AFTER account of January 6th.

It’s a long piece, I just now finished the first part. It makes the law enforcement agencies, especially the FBI, look incredibly incompetent - if not complicit.

This link is gifted from my account, it’s not paywalled for two weeks and won’t count against your free views.

It’s good Ann_Hedonia. I’m about 2/3 through it. It is a long piece.

I wish they where throwing the book at these assholes and traitors. Including the leader.

I’ve always been baffled by the “we had no idea this was gonna happen” excuse. I mean, I fucking knew it was coming and I’m just a regular guy who looks at teh regular intarwebz.

Oh, yeah. During the attack I was baffled by people seeming surprised that it was going on. How could anyone have not known that something very not good was going to happen at the capital that day?

Oh, and after the attack. “No big deal”.

One went so far as saying “It was just tourists.” Forget who it was but he helped man a barricade.

I don’t know that I’m “baffled”, it’s obvious to me that there was a large degree of willful ignorance involved, because God forbid that anyone go against the “Republicans Good, Democrats Bad” orthodoxy of the Trump administration. It was telling that Robert O’Brien, Trump’s National Security advisor, thought that the only threats came from counter-protesters.

I do find it dismaying that Chris Wray refuses to publicly acknowledge a connection between Trump’s election loss and the violence of January 6th. This was from his testimony in June, where he also referred to the “Stop the Steal” movement as scattered online chatter.

So what we’ve learned is that if a Republican makes a violent threat, even a specific one, it’s going to be classified by the FBI as “aspirational” because “Republicans Good”.

I also found it interesting that the insurrectionists had been inserting the word “peaceful” into their violent threats in order to keep them being deleted by social media platforms, to the extent that it was a joke….”We will peacefully take out Mitt Romney first”. That throws a new light onto Trump’s call for a peaceful march to the Capitol.

“We promise to not torture him before we ‘take him out’.” That’s peaceful, ain’t it?

So lets see if I have this straight.

The violence on January 6th which didn’t happen because it was a totally peaceful protest resulting in 5 deaths, was instigated by Antifa members, who are innocent because they were acting under the official orders of Trump, who is himself totally innocent as no one would think what he said was a call for violence.

Have I got that right? Is there anything I’m missing?

Not quite. The Antifa members who instigated the peaceful protest were guilty as sin; it’s the Patriots who resisted them that were acting under the orders of Trump, and are therefore innocent.

Doctor! Doctor! DOCTOR!!! My brain hurts!

I’m so proud. My alma mater puts out a newsletter with serious thinkers simplifying complex issues, like:

TL; DR version: “Semi-coherent Gish gallop of superficial right-wing talking points, outright fabrications and abused logic.”

Anyone still using the “but he said peacefully!” argument deserves nothing but scorn.

I replied to that College paper. removed Email address

I basically told Roger (the Editor) to stop telling lies.

Modnote: Your post was pretty much a call to action. Do not do this again.
I removed the Email part.

I noticed that he managed all the right dogwhistles: racist comments, misogynistic comments, etc.

But my biggest impressions from reading that is that he doesn’t know what the word "oligarchy’ means and that he projects more than a multiplex.

What_Exit - Sorry, sorry sorry. Won’t happen again.

I knew I disliked the Patriots for good reason. …sorry🏈

Hey, thanks! Yeah, I loved going to a small college, and many of the students were hippie-wannabe liberals, but the far-right administration did a pretty good job of radicalizing me in the other direction.

Here’s some more aftermath:

Others in the article get jail time, too.
