7 Jan 2021 and beyond - the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol

Oh yes, she did. I’ve prepared and noticed many minute orders by judges. Rarely do they insert commentary such as Chief Judge Beryl Howell did in this case. A basic minute order indicating a judge’s ruling goes something like:

“Defendant’s request for non-essential travel previously heard on blah-blah date is denied.”

Exactly how do they enforce this nonsensical rule?

Let’s just check before someone answers: if they actually have a method of doing so, do you really want to know the details of it?

Yeah, you’re right. Perhaps this is something better left unknown…

Sooo many threads that this could and perhaps should go in; it’s fucking brilliant (and only 98 seconds):

Simple: Perhaps members are assigned chaperones who accompany and mind them 24/7/365. Other cults do things like that.

I’m so fucking tired of click-bait headlines taking over EVERY WHERE!

You won’t believe what this poster flipped out over!

I guess I’m being whooshed in flipping out over the unclickable link. GAAAAAAAAAAHHH! :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, you anonymous, venal, sycophantic dipshit, either you or Ryan is lieing, and I wonder just who it might be.

Guess who is joining my ignore list?

Just kidding! That made me laugh.

Having prepared many Findings and Orders After Hearing, I definitely agree. “Simply reject” does not quite cover:

“This Court will not commemorate the one-year anniversary of this attack on the Capitol by granting defendant’s request for non-essential foreign travel when he is awaiting judgment for his actions on that day”

I will say, “slams” is perhaps a bit OTT.

An insurrectionist who was let out on bail has been accused of killing a passenger in another car while allegedly drunk driving.

Can we just go back to this for a second:

I’m picturing O’Toole as some sort of glorified hatcheck boy, but apparently the Republican Cloakroom has to do with Congressional admin including schedule coordination etc. Huh.

Ah, TIL.

Excellent use. In another thread, a poster was saying that an “Ignorance Fought” button would be handy when you want to indicate you learned something new without derailing the thread. TIL might be a workaround.

The lawyer for a guy who was 19 when he attacked the Capitol is trying to claim that his client’s brain wasn’t fully developed at the time he tried to overthrow the government.

While that is literally true (it is tangentially one of the reasons pediatricians are recommended as primary physicians into your early 20’s - your body is still growing), that’s quite ye olde stretch there. “My youthful lack of impulse control just took over!” Yeah, that’s not going to get you out of a DUI and it shouldn’t get you out of rioting.

I gotta believe that dodge has been tried at least 10,000 times in courts by assorted Public Defenders around the country trying to get teen-aged dolts who’ve just been caught tipping a cow or vandalizing the school trophy case out of trouble. I would assume (hope) it never works.

IMO every single member of the so-called Capitol Police intelligence unit should be immediately unemployed:

Can’t the capitol police come out and tell the republicans they will invite the 1/6 crowd and hand them all politicians that claims they were “tourists”?

To address health and safety issues they can even build the scaffolding properly.

There were folks in court:

My favorite part of the article:
