7 Jan 2021 and beyond - the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol

According to the article, the DC Police deployed hundreds of officers to the Capitol when requested to do so. But at that point things were already out of control.

I’d be hesitant to take this article as a definitive version of events, as it’s based around the interview with Sund and he’s likely to have a highly slanted interpretation of what failed here and why.

For what purpose? She had already resigned.

Democratic Rep. says she got Covid from unmasked Reps.when they were in shelter during the riot. She had already gotten the first dose of the vaccine but still tested positive for Covid with some symptoms.

Jan. 20 (21st really) can’t come soon enough. There are more threats of violence if Trump is removed from Office.

I’m starting to miss 2020…

Patience, grasshopper. As they say, sometimes it’s darkest before the dawn. But we need to be watchful.

Well, that’s sure not going to cheer Marvin up any, eh? (and Og, I hope not!)

This line, that there were more than just the one Armed services person there.

Here is some up to date news on arrestees:

It’s always darkest just before the lights go out completely.

And ninja’d by @running_coach with the Despair.Com poster, which I have … macrofluvios

Speculations on a new American dawn are wildly premature if not apocryphal.

Actually, I rather enjoyed June and July. In retrospect.

Which is why I mentioned patience (which we don’t seem to have much of in this culture at any level) and watchfulness. We can’t do what we normally do and forget this as the new news cycles roll in. That would be a terrible mistake. I do think it will get better if we can do those things, though.

Although Trump stood in front of the crowd and essentially incited them to riot, it’s the Democrats who are making a mockery of the Constitution by pushing for a second impeachment, according to a member of the New York Post editorial board. LOL.

And apparently Trump is such an asshole that he’s even going to make me say something nice about Bill Belichick, which I never thought would happen.

74 million votes, baby cakes. Nearly 12mil (17%) more than 2016.
Patience and watchfulness just won’t cut the mustard, butter no parsnips or whatever vegan proverb you prefer.

And you think I am unaware of this? I live here. Baby cakes.

The past decade has shown me a metric shedload (an SI technical term) of things that I was totally unaware of within the USA. But you can actually do summat about it. I’m just a bystander suffering collateral damage.

Sucks to be you less than it sucks to be us, and while I am sure you and whole lot of other folks would like something done about it yesterday, we can’t just ask for the manager on this one. I really do believe it will get better but it isn’t going to be soon. Otherwise, I guess there’s no reason to do anything, is there?

Not sure about Nixon/Ford, but that was a special case anyway. Obviously the dead guys shouldn’t count. There have been only four previous Presidents who snubbed the inauguration of the guy who beat them: John Adams (1801), John Quincy Adams (1829), Martin van Buren (1841), and Andrew Johnson (1869). So, yeah, the quoted statement seems reasonable. Also note that the last guy to do it had also been impeached!

Also, Martin van Buren was just being kind of a weenie, but those other three were some of the only elections comparable to the last one in terms of how high emotions were running and how many people thought the country couldn’t possibly survive their party losing.

Armed group ‘planning huge uprising’ in DC if Trump removed by 25th amendment

– and the same people aren’t planning one if he’s not removed by 25th amendment?

Hint, folks: if people expect you to do the exact same thing whether they give in to your threat or they don’t, said threat ceases to be any incentive.

Second hint, not that I expect them to take it:

The Department of Homeland Security announced that the window for the National Special Security Event, which will involve tens of thousands of National Guard troops and federal law enforcement personnel, will begin Jan. 13, rather than the previously scheduled Jan, 19

Someone on Twitter said that Belichick should have just said “We’re on to Biden.”

I wouldn’t be too nice to him – that statement of his is the most egregious use of passive voice I’ve ever read. “Subsequently, the tragic events of last week occurred and the decision has been made not to move forward with the award.” Not that Trump incited the riot – the events just “occurred.” Belichick doesn’t say he’s refusing the award, but “the decision has been made.” I’m guessing the decision was made for him. Maybe Robert Kraft decided he didn’t need any more bad PR after the prostitution bust.
