7 Jan 2021 and beyond - the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol

Did trump buy the Post or something? Or are tinfoil hats “office casual” there?

I’ve been following this thread pretty closely, but it’s moving quickly so I’m not sure if anyone has posted this story yet.

Normally, there are no barricades. Those are there in preparation for the inarguration.

Here’s some aftermath:

Just a trickle so far…

Warnings of the frantic evacuation and huddled sequestration becoming a super-spreader event because of intransigence by asshole Republicans are being confirmed.

Companies have hit the pause button on donations. Some to all politicians, but many more to those who voted against accepting the results of the election.

From here:

A particularly good one

HALLMARK CARDS: The maker of greeting cards was very specific in the message it wants to send U.S. Senators Josh Hawley and Roger Marshall: Give us our money back. The Kansas City, Missouri-based company said it’s seeking reimbursement for the $7,000 it donated to Hawley, of Missouri, and the $5,000 it gave newly elected Marshall, of Kansas, over the last two years. The Republicans objected to the certification of electors for President-elect Joe Biden.

No. Rupert Murdoch did, though.

I hope they enclosed the request in a “Happy Inauguration Day, Traitor” card.

Legal Eagle did a short (minute) analysis of some of the comments by the defence attorney for the guy who stole the lectern. Pretty funny.

That was excellent, although it’s not so much analysis as incredulity.

I was rushing in here to post the same thing!

That was great. Why would they admit or say anything? Zip it!

Sometimes the incredulity is the analysis.

Harvard has removed a New York Republican Congresswoman from the advisory committee for its Institute of Politics.

(Response to lawyer video.) Holy shit, that’s hilarious. Having worked for a couple years at a defense attorney’s office, doubly so. Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! How in the hell did this guy get through law school and pass the bar? Maybe he practices bird law.

AP: Breaking News: President Trump takes no responsibility for violent insurrection, says remarks to supporters were “totally appropriate.” Trump says he wants “no violence.”

No story yet just the headline in a BN banner.

Well, no surprise there.

What I would rather see than impeachment of Trump, who wouldn’t really suffer anything other than symbolic consequences anyway, is for a thorough effort to publicize what happened and to shame and humiliate any citizen, any company, any company executive, any “media”, any law enforcement officer, any faceless bureaucrat, any service member, and any legislator that had anything to do with the insurrection and the misinformation campaign leading up to it. And to hold them accountable.

The images of police officers being beaten and chased, of white nationalists yelling the n-word, destroying and pillaging our capitol, ought to be replayed over and over and over again so that they are seared into public consciousness, so that we never forget this trauma - like the scenes of airplanes crashing into the Twin Towers on 9/11. It should be no different.

We should then use that elevated awareness to go immediately after Senators Cruz, Hawley, Kennedy, and others to pressure them into resignation, or if not that, then to make them as politically toxic as possible that the RNC pressures them into retirement. We should embarrass the benefactors who funded their campaigns even just casually.

This has to happen – over and over again.

They were on CNN with Cuomo.
I sure hope they’re not charging him cause that would be robbery.
