7 Jan 2021 and beyond - the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol

What are the chances that some of his erstwhile followers sue him for leading them up the garden path?

I’d suggest zero. Trump is now a cult leader to his followers; whatever he says or does is infallible. That means that if his followers get caught and are charged for some reason, then they are the ones who are at fault–they didn’t understand his instructions, or they did not follow them correctly, or some such other thing where they didn’t do what he wanted in the way he wanted it. So, they regard themselves at fault, not Trump.

I thought there was at least one such lawsuit. But a google doesn’t find anything, so I may be confused by the lawsuit(s) against Trump by the defenders of the Capitol.

Another 1/6 defendant, the guy who carried the confederate flag in the capitol and threatened a cop with it, has been sentenced to 3 years in prison.

“He cannot help but be afraid to ever trust a politician again,” his lawyers wrote.

Poor guy.

While I cannot help but smile at these seditionists’ sentences, I cannot be truly happy until those who planned it are in the cell next to them. A fish rots from the head.

Special counsel Jack smith has subpoenaed mike pence. Jack smith is moving along with alacrity.

I’d say that was a good thing.

Damn straight. Especially if he still considers himself a Republican.

I don’t know about that. As pretty much the entire agenda of Republicans since Ronnie’s “nine most destructive words”, has been to foster an environment of mistrust towards the government, the Republicans current playbook of demonstrating why is not good for our country.

The 1/6 trial for some of the Proud Boys, including their former national chairman, Enrique Tarrio, has been beset by arguments between defense attorneys and the judge.

One recent day in court, defense lawyer Norm Pattis compared the trial to visiting “Gilligan’s Island,” the title and setting of the 1960s-era sitcom about a shipwrecked boat’s crew and passengers.

If the name Norm Pattis looks familiar, it’s because he is Alex Jones’ lawyer, the attorney who got suspended for releasing the entire contents of Jones’ phone. That suspension is now under appeal.

Pattis urged Kelly to reconsider a ruling allowing prosecutors to introduce posts from the social media platform Parler.

He has a point. How can the judge allow the defendants’ own words to be used against them? How is that even fair?

What you say in public is fair game.

What you say to the police can be fair game, like a confession, provided the police follow the rules for interrogation.

You just can’t be forced to testify in your trial.

Vas joke.

But I can imagine the lawyers arguing that using the defendants’ own words against them is the same thing as being forced to testify against themselves. (I can certainly imagine Trump believing that.) Nonsense, of course; but I think the RWNJ’s lawyers are not top-notch.

It’s Norm effing Pattis.

He’s infamously bad.

The rank-and-file insurrectionists – unlike their ringleader – have been systematically rounded up and are being tried and sentenced. In some cases, they will be serving years in prison.

What’s the right-wing media’s take on that? Have right-wing U.S. commentators condemned these trials?

Oh, hell yeah. Variations on the “political prisoners sent to the gulag by the communist left” theme.

Frankly, I’m starting to hope for public execution by firing squad. Why not? The MAGAts are going to accuse Democrats of eliminating their political enemies anyway. If they’re going to accuse you of being a bear, be a grizzly!

While I’m more a fan of forced labor, I agree completely.

I respectfully disagree, vociferously.
I’d say it’s closer to the opposite: one lying man benefitted yugely because there were so many traitorous idiots out there ripe for the picking.

Yeah, I donno. Sure, Trump kicked over stones and exposed these idiots, but if he hadn’t lied constantly about everything, I think these people would still be under their rocks.

Now that can be good and bad. At least some of them are seeing justice. But now TPTB have a new chapter for their playbook ~ “Do what every you want with no repercussions” Provided of course that you are not just a lowly foot soldier.
