7 Jan 2021 and beyond - the aftermath of the storming of the Capitol

It’s not a Golden Calf, but…

More of a Golden Ass.

I’ve read it was a golden calf phallus, so this one wasn’t too far off.

And two more Oath Keepers will be spending time in the company of other men.

3ish years for sedition seems a bit under sentenced to me. i would have gone a lot higher in these sentences for the oath keepers.

I agree, but IIRC the charge of sedition has been rarely used until J6. Perhaps now that it is being used for these idiots more regularly, people will think twice before taking actions such as these people took - they are being made an example as a warning to others: “Yes, you actually CAN be charged with sedition these days.”

Holy crap, that’s the funniest five seconds over eight seasons (or whatever) of Gilligan’s Island.

NYTimes is reporting that Mark Meadows testified to the DC grand jury. I am sure there was a rich panoply of questions he was asked, including testifying whether specific passages in his own book were (or were not) accurate.

Meadows should be able to say whether the papers trump was waving around in that interview meeting were classified documents.

Interesting…

Book 'em, Dan-o:

Hudson woman gets 11 months in prison for role in Jan. 6 riot

Evidently she’s a member of the Proud Boys. I didn’t know they were so into gender equality.

They are also accept people if they’re gay. They’re particular but fervent with their bigotry.

Oorah!

Two active-duty Marines plead guilty to Capitol riot charges

Two of three men who were active-duty Marines when they participated together in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol pleaded guilty on Monday to riot-related criminal charges, officials said.

Joshua Abate and Dodge Dale Hellonen pleaded guilty to parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia said. They’re set to be sentenced in September. The charge carries a sentence of up to six months in prison, one year of supervised release and a fine of up to $5,000.

Not knowing anything about military law, I wonder if these gentlemen will get a dishonorable discharge?

They did not commit a military crime, unless AWOL at the time, but perhaps something like “bringing the service into disrepute”

The following cite says that active duty members can attend protests but not be one of the speakers. But if they’re on duty then they can’t even attend an off-base protest.

But here’s where I think they’re going to have problems:

A separate set of rules, DoD Directive 1325.06, further addresses active-duty troop attendance at off-base demonstrations. That instruction blocks troops from attending if they are on duty; they are in a foreign country; the activity is a “breach of law and order;” or “violence is likely to result,” it states.

They were arrested only this year. There wasn’t a lengthy proceeding; these two were caught and pretty quickly pled guilty.

Details from back at the time of their arrest:

From what I understand, they are likely to be discharged after the completion of their sentences. By keeping them in the service until then, they can do their time in military prison; if they’re discharged first, they’re then civilians. This is just based on things I’ve read so if that’s wrong I welcome correction.

The fact that they were active-duty servicemen and they didn’t come forward after 6-Jan, clearly hoping to go unnoticed and unpunished, seems to me to argue against any kind of leniency in their sentencing.

Their duty status is listed as “Confined - Civil Authorities” and they will not do their time in a military prison. What will happen is they will receive an administrative discharge for the good of the service. Dishonorable Discharges and Bad Conduct Discharges can only be issued by order of a court-martial.

OK, thanks for the better info.
