Thelma and Moriarty I can’t live with the view that the American Experiment is over. I share personal responsibility for how jacked-up our society gets and know our institutions could be better. However I look to my great uncle and aunt who were voters when FDR said in 1934 to a journalist that the New Deal had to succeed or else the country would dissolve. My relatives were telling me how residents had a vested interest in holding civilization together even when on tender hooks. They were a strange mix of being pissed at the system and yet refusing to bag the whole thing. I must ascribe to that simultaneous longsuffering and striving for the future.
See new thread.
Which thread? I don’t see one…on what topic; I don’t see one that’d address Eric1’s post.
The fake electors scheme is probably the craziest and most blatant political hack job attempt I’ve ever seen.
How in the hell anyone was convinced to be a fake elector is just… just… there are no words.
Like J6 it was an attempt to throw enough wrenches in the works to simply shut down the entire system and somehow allow DJT to remain in office. If it was forced to the House of Representatives it may have worked. I guess that was the goal.
I have a bit of respect for Pence having the gumption to hang in there and certify the vote. Although it was mostly a ceremonial process.
One mans arrogance. A stupid, stupid man brought this all about.
No. Trump was the symptom, not the disease.
But he kicked over the rocks, and brought about the disease. Yes, the disease was always there, but it’s good to have it in the light of day I think.
Absolutely. I’ve been saying this since before he was elected.
The country needs a big dose of anti-trump vaccine. But not everyone will take it…
They took something at least a little feasible – preparing contingency elector documents in case any of the lawsuits panned out, and turned it into blatant fraud by submitting them as if they were the original proper legal electors AFTER all of the court cases were over and lost (and this was the plan all along, no matter what feasible claims there were to contingencies).
I think one state did use the “contingency” if/ then language.
Pennsylvania did that. It did save them from prosecution in pa.
Maybe they could introduce some into the water supply, like fluoride.
Nevermind
Or in the next round of Covid vaccine boosters.
And credit for Merrick Garland ultimately goes to Mitch McConnell.
Five or six Secret Service have testified in front of the Jan 6th grand jury.
That in itself is unprecedented, I think.
A guilty plea from one of the more gleeful insurrectionists.
Hemphill responded to Mr Trump’s comments on Twitter, calling for him to stop using her story to boost his agenda.
“Please @realDonaldTrump don’t be using me for anything, I’m not a victim of Jan6, I pleaded guilty because I was guilty! #StopTheSpin,” she wrote on the platform.
Good on her. Hope she agrees to appear in an anti-Trump ad at some point in the 2024 campaign cycle.
